I am so excited to show you what I have been working on. My Boys Bedroom Makeover has been so much fun to do the last couple of months! I am a very simple decorator. I don’t spend lots of money on decorating my house, but I do like it to look nice, clean and simple, but also cute! I would rather spend money on vacations and memories than lavish decor in my home. When we first moved into our home my 3 boys really wanted a blue wall and to share a room. They didn’t get that. The baby wasn’t sleeping through the night yet, so he was still in sisters room since she has always shared the room with the babies and can sleep through their crying. The boys room was pretty plain up until now, just a bunk bed we got at a cheap price from some friends, an old dresser that we got for free and a bookshelf. Now that we have 4 boys (the baby is in with his sister until he outgrows the crib), but I knew that I wanted to get double bunk beds for their room that matched each other. We only have a 3 bedroom home plus a playroom and I am not quite ready to give up my playroom to a bedroom yet. My husband tried to convince me to try to find another bunked that kind of matched the other one so we didn’t have to buy two. I told him that I wanted two super strong sturdy bunk beds that would last until these boys left the house. I also slipped in the fact that we should also get an 8 drawer dresser. That’s how our Boys Bedroom Makeover all started!
Boys Bedroom Makeover + Tips to Fit 2 Bunk Beds in One Small Space
Here is there old room…simple and boring. We looked around at different furniture stores for bunk beds and I wasn’t finding what I wanted. I finally called a friend from where we used to live who’s husband makes log furniture, and asked if he ever did regular bunk beds. I would have loved log, but there is no way those two bunk beds would fit in that room if it was log. He said yes! The most exciting part was that he was only $50 more that what we had found in the store, and we could customize it to our liking! It took a couple months, but it was well worth it!! If you are in the Southern Utah area, check out Giggling Creek Products www.gigglingcreeklogproducts.com and talk to Justin. He is amazing and gave us exactly what we wanted.
Here is the big reveal…I LOVE IT!!! Their bedroom is free of toys except for some really special ones in their closet, the rest of the toys are in the playroom to stay, which I am so happy about! I was so sick of getting their playroom cleaned up and then walking into their bedroom at night and seeing more toys! The walls by their beds are plain right now. I would love any suggestions or what to put on the wall!I kept their bookshelf for a little reading nook. It doesn’t match perfectly, but they don’t care and it is still a good shelf! We had him stain it using Mission Oak and I LOVE It. I was so nervous to see it, but I loved how it turned out!!
I also love their new Zipit Bedding. They are so awesome!! I will tell you more about them on Wednesday!
And the dresser! Oh it is my favorite! It’s HUGE and perfect! Each kid has two drawers, one for jammies, socks and underwear and one for their pants and shorts. All their shirts hang in the closet!
I wanted to do a little bit of a cowboy theme, but not overboard. So I just got a few things, like the horse picture and the “Howdy” sign. I also love this vinyl that says, “There’s a Little Cowboy In All of Us”!
One of my favorite parts of the room are these. I put them on the wall right when they walk in.
I finally had enough motivation to finish these stitching that I have never finished or framed since my kids were born. I will have the printable up on Thursday to share with you. They are super easy and fun!
Here are some tips to fitting 3+ kids in one small space…
- Add a shoe organizer to the inside of their closet door.
- Get under the bed drawers (my kids love having their own junk drawer and i love it because it the one drawer that is theirs to make messy)
- Get dresser with big and deep drawers!
- Add a lower section to the closet. (I know when they get bigger things will have to change in the closet department, but for right now this works)
The boys have definitely added their own little flair to their room. They all put their stuffed animals on their beds. They added their favorite books to their dresser.
I designated an art area for them. They would hang it up everywhere if I let them, but I told them they needed it to stay in the cute reading nook.
My son even put up a US and Utah State Flag by his bed. It’s not what I would have done, but they love it in it
It was a simple change, but they, and I, LOVE their room. They even said they think it is a peaceful place. They love to just go in their and sit on their bunk beds and chat. I have also caught them in there during the day just reading a book! I love seeing my son every morning in the reading corner writing in his journal and reading his scriptures before school. I love that they keep it clean and that there aren’t any toys in there. It’s not a huge room, and all four of them might not share that small room for the rest of their teenage lives, but they will have some great memories! I remember sharing a room with my sisters. I think it will be great for these boys to share a room and have that brotherly bonding place!
