Hilary Weeks Guest Post & a Giveaway of her New CD “Say Love”

September 7, 2013 by The Things I Love Most

I love Hilary Weeks! She is an amazing singer / songwriter.  .  Her music inspires so many.  She truly has a gift. Have you heard about here new CD”Say Love“I have heard a few of her songs and they are SO good!

Hilary Weeks made history two years ago when she became the first LDS artist to break the top 10 on the current contemporary Christians Albums Billboard list.  She is also my favorite inspirational speaker at Time Out for Women events.  Have you ever heard about her clickers?   Go watch this video here, it is awesome!  She has started a movement based on positive thinking called BillionClicks.org. and you can even buy a clicker!  I have one, it’s great!!

I asked Hillary to share with my readers what her favorite musical memory is.  Here is a her fun story…
Kendra asked me to share one of my favorite musical memories.  That is hard.  It’s like trying to pick only one favorite memory from elementary school.  Would it be the smell of brand new crayons?  The yellow velour shirt and brown corduroy pants you wore on the first day of school?  Would it be when you were teacher’s pet in Mrs. Skladal’s 5th grade class?  It definitely wouldn’t be the time you were sent to the corner for tightening your ponytail in gym class when you should have been doing push-ups.  (That one scarred me.)  See what I mean?  It is hard to pick just one!

But it has been really fun trying to choose a memory, as many memories that haven’t visited my recollection suddenly return again carrying with them the emotions I felt when I first experienced them.

Then the debate.  Should I choose something meaningful?  Unique?  Spiritual?  Creative?  I settled on something…Blonde.

Two years ago, I traveled to Nashville with Tyler Castleton (my producer) to record the Every Step CD.  I had never been to Nashville before.  It was the first time I had witnessed the unbelievable talent of Tennessee musicians.  I should have gotten a cramp in my jaw, with how many times it dropped to the floor as I listened to them play the piano, guitar, bass and drums.  Blair Masters played the piano on one of the recording sessions.  He is the keyboard player for Garth Brooks.  I know, cool, huh?  He was brilliant.  However, at one point there was a very specific piano part I was hoping for.  He was playing something very close, but not quite what I wanted.  I tried to explain it from where I was sitting, but I wasn’t able to communicate it well enough.  So, I hopped up, went to the room where Blair was, played the piano part for him to hear and then returned to the room where we were listening.  Tyler looked at me in disbelief and then said, “I can’t believe you just did that.”

“Did what?”  I countered.

“Went in there and told Blair Masters how to play something.  He’s only one of the best keyboard players in the state of Nashville and you just told him what to play?”

Realization set in.  What had I just done?  I was only trying to help.  But, sheesh, me trying to help Blair Masters is like me trying to show Bobby Flay how to make Cardamom-Semolina Shortbread.  I’m clueless!

Seconds later, the recording session restarted and Blair played the part.  It was perfect.

I looked at Tyler and just smiled.
Thanks Hilary, way to be brave and blonde!!  I bet you have tons of fun memories.

LOl… I LOVE “blond” moments! 🙂 I have so many of them that I almost made a button for my blog with a “blond moments” theme! 😮 But I procrastinated my great plan and don’t know if it will ever happen. I should. LOL Thanks for reminding me that those moments aren’t all bad! 😉 PS. Beautiful music and beautiful message. Thanks for sharing!
