At the beginning of the month, this new movie, The Stray, was released in over 600 theaters! I was able to see a pre-screening of it and thoroughly enjoyed it! The Stray is a family movie based on the actual life of the director Mitch Davis, Writer/director of The Other Side of Heaven.
The Stray tells the inspiring true story of a stray dog, “Pluto,” who appears from out of nowhere just in time to save a family that is falling apart. Pluto is not only a guard dog – he’s a guardian angel. Sometimes help comes in the most unlikely forms. Sometimes prayers are answered in the most unlikely ways. Sometimes one dog can change everything.
Some might think by looking at the cover, that this movie is just another dog movie, but it is much more than that. This movie, The Stray, is about a family becoming united again. We see at the beginning of the movie that the family is struggling. Mitch, the dad, is trying to make it in Hollywood working as a screenplay editor and do well at work, but by doing so he is neglecting (I think unintentionally) his family. I see this a lot in life with men that are trying so hard to make it for their family, they in turn struggle to be home and have great relationships with their kids because they work so hard at trying to make money for their family. The wife is struggling and the son and his dad don’t have a great relationship. After an incident that happens, the dad has a wake up call and realizes what is most important. In the end we see the family working hard together to be closer and strengthening their family relationship! It is a wonderful movie with a great story to share!

***Spoiler Alert…This movie is sad. The dog does die. I warn you, because my 4 year old cried a lot of the movie. All my kids got emotional, but he couldn’t stop crying, but wanted to see the end. If your kids are sensitive about animals dying this might not be the movie for them. I was able to talk to my kids about how sometimes animals or people come into our lifes to help us and then leave.
