The Not Even Once Club

September 8, 2013 by The Things I Love Most

On Monday the kids were sitting around the table eating dinner.  We still needed to have family night and I hadn’t figured out what to talk about.  Then I remembered that Deseret Book had sent me this cute book called “The Not Even Once Club”. So I looked it over and thought it would be perfect for our family home evening.  I read it while they ate dinner, (which is a perfect time for family home evening, the kids are busy eating and not talking or running around!)

This book, written by Wendy Watson Nelson and Illustrated by Brandon doorman, is a fun way to teach our kids about the importance of choosing to keeping the commandments and to never break them.
This book is adorable and the pictures are amazing!  It is about a group of kids that start a club in a tree house in their neighborhood called the “Not Even Once Club”.  Tyler is a new boy in the neighborhood and their primary teacher encourages the kids to invite Tyler to be a part of their club.  They invite him to come to the tree house and take a test to see if he will keep the commandments.  My kids loved it because they are building a tree house right now with their dad and could kind of relate.

When you buy the book you will want to download and print out the discussion questions from Here and the Certificate from Here.  The kids were excited to sign their own Not Even Once promise, to keep the commandments and not give into temptation.  It was a perfect family night and my kids are the perfect age to talk to them about these things.  There is so much out there in the world that can tempt them, and we as parents need to address it and teach them how to make good choices.

I always love to find good children’s book so this looks like a good one for my grandchildren.
If you get a chance I did a review on another children’s book that I think is a must read. Check it our because I think you would enjoy it too.
Also, I think having FHE during dinner probably is a great time to present a lesson. I loved it!
    Blessings!
