The Family School encourages the use of a Timeline to show all the Key Links in History that make up the Chain of Christianity. Last year I didn’t do a lot with the Timeline. I printed off this ladies timeline which is great, but I put it in sheet protectors in a binder and didn’t really do anything with it except when we would learn about that part in history I would show them when it was in history by pointing to the picture. This year when I saw that The Family School was adding Timeline Cards, I decided I wanted a usable timeline
I was visiting my family in Orem last week. They do a group co-op with about 5 moms. They were discussing how to make a traveling timeline because they rotate houses and need to be able to take it with them. I suggested putting in on fabric so it could roll up. We thought of all sorts of things such as laminating 9 feet of timeline, or making it really small. This is what we came up with….
- First, we printed out the Key Links from here and then found pictures online or in books/magazines for each key link. They also could have used the pictures from here which is what I did, but I printed them from my printer at home and they didn’t have a color printer, which you don’t have to have. They probably saved a lot of money from just finding pictures in magazines and old history books.
- We bought a roll of felt. It was 6 yards long and 6 feet wide so we split it in half length wise and made it 3 feet wide and 6 yards long. I was planning on using the other half, but decided not to.
- We put the pictures and words on cute cardstock that was double colored and then laid them out to fit. It fit perfect on the 6 yards.
- We then stapled each card to the felt.
- We didn’t permanently put the timeline cards on because they are doing Year , and will do it as they learn about each subject. They are planning on hot gluing, pinning or stapling them on.
- We also decided that if there was anything they wanted to just write on the timeline they could do it with permanent marker.

This is an awesome post. I just started the History year 1 and I have a tiny house, so I have been thinking up ways I could do a timeline. I LOVE this. Thank you so much for sharing it.
