I am excited to be participating in this blog tour for this fantastic book, 52 Weeks to Fortify Your Family by Nicole Carpenter! When I first started having kids, I knew one of the main things I wanted to teach them was to have good strong values. This world is a crazy place and I pray each day that I am teaching my children by word and example to grow to be good, kind and loving human beings. I asked my kids the other day what they thought “Values” were. They said it was how much something is worth. We decided to look it up in the dictionary…ok we really just asked “Google Now”but she is the dictionary right? 🙂 One of the definition in the dictionary said “Values are a person’s principles or standards of behavior; one’s judgment of what is important in life”. To me, the most important thing in the world is to see my children grow up having strong values, that they have standards that they live up to and that they know what is most important in life.
Remember how I told you I love to do a little family devotional before school every morning. If you haven’t seen my post on how we do family devotional, click HERE and get a ton of free printables. A long time ago I had it set out that I wanted to take a value a week and talk about it with the kids. I never figured out how I wanted to present it, and to be honest, I kind of forgot. My kids are very good kids, most of the time, and I know they know these values, but I also know that it is important to teach them why we are kind, or why we need to be honest. We have talked a lot about Christlike Attributes, and that is really what these values are. Values that help us to be more like our Savior Jesus Christ.
So, now that that long story is over you can see why I was SO excited to review this book. The first 12 weeks of lessons are all on great values I want to instill in my children. Values such as, Kindness, Charity, Happiness, Obedience, Service, Virtue and Courage to name a few. The next 40 weeks worth of messages are Life Lessons, Gospel Lessons, and some fun Holiday Lessons that I am excited about! The book is fantastic! One great plus about the book is that the lessons are short! The chapters also include scriptures to read each day along with questions and links to talks that apply to the lesson for the week! We always at least eat one meal all together, usually dinner, and so we have been using this book during meal time this week. Most of the lessons only took 1-2 minutes! I would totally recommend this book for anyone, especially families with children. Your children NEED these lessons every. single. day. They/we need to reminders of these things to help us get through each day!
