How to Set Attainable Goals and Achieve them + Free Printable

January 23, 2015 by The Things I Love Most

Goals

Goal setting is very important to our family.  We as human beings are sometimes very hard on ourselves if we don’t achieve our goals every year.  We need to retrain our minds to set attainable goals and achieve them. Every year at the beginning of the year we as a family set aside a night to look over our goals for the year and set new ones.  I have made these printables for my family for the last few years.  I print them out, laminate them and hang them on their door or wall by their bed.  We are planning to review them with our kids monthly during our M&D meetings.  I used to find myself trying to accomplish huge goals every year and then when I didn’t I would be frustrated.  We encourage our kids to really think of goals that they can attain. The best way to achieve a goal is to make it simple enough to accomplish, but hard enough that it makes you stretch a little.  For example, my daughter has a goal to finish the Book a Mormon by August.  This goal is a going to be very easy for her since she is almost done anyway. She also made a goal to learn a new sport.  This is going to stretch her and will be something she really has to work on.  Another example is, my son is just starting to read, and his goal under the school category, is to read chapter books on his own by the end of the year.  That is an attainable goal if he really works at it.    We also set family goals in these same areas, but we include vacation because we love to travel as a family and if we don’t make it a goal, we usually don’t go. This year our goal for vacation is to go to a state we haven’t been to before!  I’m excited to plan this with my husband this year.  Not sure what we are doing, but it’s going to be awesome!
