Chicken Treat to Beat the Heat

June 19, 2013 by The Things I Love Most

One of the reason I was excited to get chickens was for them to eat our food scraps!  I just feel like we waste a lot of food and it has been really nice to just pile it on a plate and take it out to them at the end of the day! The other day I made this by putting our scraps in a bundt pan and freezing them.  I found the idea here at Fresh Eggs Daily!  The chickens love it!  At first they were a bit hesitant, but it was gone within the hour!

It’s been fun to follow these new blogs about gardening and raising chickens!  My favorite being BackyardChickens.com.  They have a lot of great tips and ideas!  I found a list of foods that chickens can and can’t eat here!  Our chickens are pigs!  haha  No really they eat a ton, and gobble up those scraps like I do a Milky Way.

Speaking of Milky Way, did I tell you my husband gave me his Father’s Day Milky Way that he got at church.  That’s an awesome Father! One that knows how much his wife loves Milky Ways and gives it to her! Don’t worry I shared….a bite! He’s the best!

I think it is so awesome you are raising Chickens. We might look into it. What a unique way to give them scrap. Thanks for the link, too.
    Blessings!

I have never seen anything like that before, what a good idea! I bet our chickens would have loved us if we’d done that when we were kids (we lived in AZ)…
