Time Out for Women

November 19, 2013 by The Things I Love Most

Last Friday and Saturday I was able to attend Time Out for Women!  If you haven’t ever been to one of these events, you should go!  Really, they are amazing, uplifting, energizing, and I always leave feeling stronger and ready to go home and take on the world….or just my family and the ginormous amount of laundry I have to do!

Every year Deseret Book sponsors about 20 TOFW all over the United States!  I was able to attend the event in St. George, and had a great time!  Friday is just at night with a couple of speakers and usually a musical performer.  Then on Saturday are more speakers, a lunch break/service project. and also another musical group or individual!  I totally missed Hillary Weeks and Jenny Oaks this year, but  Jericho Road did a great job!

Every year they pick a theme that all the speakers base their talks around.  The theme this year was HIGHER from the scriptures in Isaiah 55:8-9…
8-For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your  ways my says, saith the Lord.
9-For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.

I wish I wrote fast enough to write down all the awesome quotes that I heard.  Everyone that spoke said something that I needed to hear or be reminded of.  I left there with a greater sense of the love that God has for me and that no matter how hard life is if I look to Him he will help me in everything I need.  Here are just a few things I jotted down….

Virginia Pierce talked about Option Overload and how we as women need to Limit our Options and Lower our Expectations.  She talked about 3 options we all have

1- We can choose to believe that we have a choice {we always have a choice}
2- We can choose to surrender to his will.
3- We can choose to show up (Show up for God and do what he needs you to do)
John Bytheway (yes that is his name, and he is awesome!)
He talked about how the trials and struggles that we go through are hard, especially while we are going through them, but when we look back and see what we have gone through and all that we have learned we see how we have grown and see how much stronger we have become.
Christ Williams –  He is an amazing man who in 2008 lost his wife and 2 of his 4 children in a car accident with a drunk driver.  He showed this amazing video about forgiveness.  He has recently written a book called “Let It Go”.  He talked about Perspective, Patience and Progression.  His story is inspiring.
One of my favorite talks was by Merrilee Boyack.  She talked about how we are all Warrior Women.  and that we are all enlisted.  Some are “Privates” and we reach out in private moments to help others.  Some are “Colonels” (like popcorn) and we stand up for what is right and some are “Generals” in the army and we are leaders, helping other to do what is right.

The other fun thing is they also give you these cute bags! I LOVE the Chevron Print!….

Here is a little “Selfie” of me.  I didn’t take a good camera with me because my husband took it to take picture of my kids at their last soccer game, so I was left with my phone, which actually takes good pictures, but not if you have to use the flip side of the camera.  Oh well!

The last event for the year is in Salt Lake this weekend and I just got this email saying that you can view the whole event LIVE STREAM for just $9.99.

So Click HERE to order and be able to watch it where you are!
I also wanted to point out that not only do they have a Time Out for Women, but also a Time Out for Girls for ages 12-17.  So you can take your daughters. My little girl can’t wait to go with me one day!
Also get excited for next year with a whole new lineup and theme for 2014!  Go check out the cities and dates here for next year and see if there is one close to you and Pre-order your tickets now!   I told my husband I might go to California or maybe Florida! Okay that probably won’t happen, but wouldn’t that be fun!
