I love reading and talking with my kids about our ancestors. I think it is so important for them to at least know some stories about their Great Great…. Grandparents. There is so much to learn from them through their faith and example.
A few weeks ago we had a lesson in school about Timelines and I thought how great this would be as a Family Home Evening. I bought this book at Costco a long time ago called The Time Chart History of Mormonism from Premortality to Present.
It is an amazing book that’s starts with Adam and Eve goes though all the scriptures periods and end with President Hickley and what was going on in the church before he passed away. It has this huge timeline that the kids loved looking at.
After we looked at that timeline, I pulled out some family history books and stories and we looked at pedigree charts and read some stories about our ancestors. Then we made our own family timeline of when we were born, where we moved and so on! The kids loved doing it and It will be fun to add more pages as we go along!
The Family A Proclamation to the World tells us that “In the premortal realm, spirit sons and daughters knew and worshiped God as their Eternal Father and accepted His plan by which His children could obtain a physical body and gain earthly experience to progress toward perfection and ultimately realize his or her divine destiny as an heir of eternal life. The divine plan of happiness enables family relationships to be perpetuated beyond the grave. Sacred ordinances and covenants available in holy temples make it possible for individuals to return to the presence of God and for families to be united eternally.”
I think it is so important to know and learn from those that have gone before us and to teach my children about their ancestors, because we are united eternally with them!!

Holy smokes…that is an awesome book! Our costco doesn’t sell stuff like that here (of course we are not in a huge mormon area) so I am sad I didn’t get one…I am going to totally try to find it though.
