I have had a few people ask me what Home School Curriculum we are using this year. So here is a run down. I have joined a school called the Washington Online School. If you have heard of K12 {which is an all online school that anyone can do} we use their curriculum, but can pick and choose our subjects and we don’t have to do them all. It is a great program, that I am really excited for. It will also give me the flexibility to incorporate gospel teaching into every subject. You do not have to live in Washington county to use this program, anyone can use it in Utah! So for Science, Art, Music and Language {most likely Spanish} we will use the Washington Online School curriculum. Another reason I am excited is because they have groups that get together in the area. A choir and also PE class that go on in our area, it is different for every area in Utah.
For Reading and Writing I have been using this program for a couple of years and I really love it! It is called Writing Road to Reading and I also use the Phonogram Cards to teach my children the 76 phonograms in the English language. My daughter know almost all of them, and my 4 year old knows about half! It is a great program to teach reading and writing.
For Grammar I am planning on buying this book First Language Lessons. My families group school uses it and they love it!
These books, The Story of the World, are AMAZING! I am excited to use them in my history teaching. There is also another history curriculum I am excited to use from the American Heritage School. They only have from creation to the middle ages right now, but it is an excellent resource.
For math I have been using Right Start Mathematics. I love this program because it is very hands on and really fun for the kids. And Yes, they do use and Abacus!
I will use a lot from this book in my teaching method. I love Charlotte Masons principles and am exited to apply them to my teaching.
Some other books I have used are these. They are great resources in knowing what your kids need to know. These books are good for anyone home school or non home school, especially during the summer to help your kids not forget what they learned!.
For my preschool age kids we are going to use a book called Children’s First Steps and also doing a lot of hands on Montessori activities!
I will also do a cooking class once a week from this site. My kids are really excited about this because they LOVE to help in the kitchen
We also will use this book Teaching Your Children Joy, during our family devotionals. It is a great book with great ideas to teach your children to find joy in their life!
I am really excited to get started with my first official year of homeschool. A little bit nervous, but mostly excited. It will be just what our family needs and I know it is what God wants us to do {at least this year}! Wish me luck. We are starting in mid August!!

Looks like a great year–I highly recommend the Story of the World, we used all four and the activity guide, worksheets and tests. We had a giant timeline on the wall for four years. My son is now using the more advanced ones for high school, great also. We used the english book as well and loved it.

We recently began our second year of homeschool and LOVE it! It is a highlight of each day:-).
I hope you’ll share what you think of your History curriculum as you school this year. I am thinking of using this one for first grade next school year.
Good luck and happy homeschooling:-)!

Good luck–it looks like a great year you have planned!
We have absolutely loved Story of the World here. History is now our favorite subject and we have all learned so much from those books. (It’s kind of a sad commentary on my public school education when I learned more from my boys’ 1st grade history than I ever did when I was in school!)
