T.C. Christensen has produced a number of excellent films including 17 Miracles, and Ephraim’s Rescue. Both movies with compelling stories that show Gods hand helping people through great trials. I remember growing up and hearing about the Columbine school massacre and feeling so sad and a lot scared for our nation. I slightly remember my parents and grandparents talking about something that happened in Cookeville Wyoming when they were young. When I saw the previews for this filmed I was intrigued, but I honestly wasn’t super excited to see it because I don’t love movies where children’s lives are threatened. A friend of my daughters was in the movie along with her father Jason Wade. I had also heard from friends that saw it that it was very well done in how they portrayed such an awful event.
The Cokeville Miracle by T.C. Christensen
The movie is a bout a true story that took place on May 16, 1986, in the small, ranching community of Cokeville, Wyoming. The story follows an insane genius who convinces his wife that he has mathematically proven how to come back from the dead. David and Doris Young take an elementary school hostage for several hours before detonating a bomb inside a classroom that held every teacher and student in the school. While outside the school everyone is praying for a miracle. The miracle happens when every single student in the classroom survives while the only ones that die where the bombers. The story follows the local sheriff, Ron Hartley, whose children were inside the classroom, must fight his skepticism and unbelief if God and the miracles as he hears eyewitness accounts from the students about miraculous, heavenly intervention during the crisis.
One thing I really liked about the movie what that the main focus wasn’t on the tragedy but that it was on the miracles that happened during the tragedy and how the lives were spared. In the movie it takes about how tragedies do happen, and that God doesn’t always provide miracles that save everyone, but it this moment he did, and we are grateful for moments like this that help strengthen man’s faith in God!
