Miracle Maker {Movie Review}

November 11, 2015 by The Things I Love Most

I love a good movie but even better than a good movie is when it is a good Christmas movie. I am kind of a collector of all things Christmas, especially books and movies! I was excited when I heard about this new movie the Miracle Maker that came out last week.  I had a chance to preview the movie before it came out and thoroughly enjoyed it. They picked great cast members, one of them being a favorite of mine, Jason Wade, who was recently in the movie The Cokeville Miracle, and has also been in a lot of other great movies.

In their longstanding commitment to developing faith-based films, Covenant Communications has joined Paulist Productions and Mainstay Productions to produce this wonderful movie Miracle Maker, a family film that will resonate with people of all ages. The DVD is available at Costco, on Amazon, at Deseret Book and Seagull Book, and wherever LDS products are sold.Miracle Maker - A Christmas Tale

Miracle Maker {Movie Review}

Miracle Maker is set in turn-of-the-century Western town. The town is in desperate need of a Christmas miracle. Lots of hard things are happening in the small little town of Woodhaven. The residents of Woodhaven are feeling discouraged—work is scarce, money is low, love is lagging, and spirits are down. People start to say that the only way things will get better is if they have a miracle. A little boy, seeing the desperation in the lives of those he loves sends a letter attached to a bird praying for a Miracle Maker to come! A mysterious telegraph arrives, and a handsome stranger walks into town with nothing more than his dog and a chicken. Throw in a mean-spirited landlord, a love-sick preacher, a pair of delightfully charming old biddies, and an enchanting little girl—and what happens next will warm the heart and create a healthy dose of the Christmas spirit as the entire town is changed for the better.  Was it because this man truly was a miracle maker?  You will just have to find out!

I love movies that are during this time period!  I think my heart still wishes that I lived in a small farm town during this era.  The producers and director did a great job casting this movie. Filmed primarily at This Is the Place State Park in Salt Lake City, old town Heber City, and American Fork, the film features a diverse cast of well-known actors, including Brian Krause (Charmed TV series), Jasen Wade (17 Miracles, Saints and Soldiers, Cokeville Miracle), Adam Johnson, Jake Stormoen, Melanie Stone, and eight-year-old Kalea Atkinson. It really has truly good acting!  This is a sweet movie to watch this time of year for every member of your family. It helps us realize what one person can do to influence others for the better.  It helps us feel grateful for the small miracles that happen in our lives.

Miracle Maker—based on a story written by Covenant author Ann Acton—shows what happens when seeds of love are planted and people create their own miracles by performing acts of service. John Lyde and Sally Meyer once again combine their talents as director and screenwriter. The two have previously collaborated on popular films Christmas for a Dollar, Christmas Oranges, He Knows My Name, Abide with Me, Minor Details, and You’re So Cupid.

“It’s my hope that after watching Miracle Maker, families will understand that you can make your own miracles,” Lyde says. “Our message to audiences is that if you need a change in your life, you can create the change yourself.”
