I just recently recieve this movie, Story Tellers: An Evening with Colorful Characters, to watch from Covenant Communication. Let me first off just say that I liked it, but it was different than I expected. If you are going into this movie thinking it’s a fun action packed adventure show about these three colorful characters, it’s not. It was more of a documentary of these men and what it would have been like if these three men met up and talked around a camp fire sharing stories of their lives. It was fun to learn about life in the 1800’s. We learn what life would have been like for a riverboat captain, life as pioneers in Utah, and a life as a fugitive running from religious persecution. It also talks about polygamy and I gained a lot of insight and understanding from what they said about it. I liked the movie. I do think it would have been fun to see more action and adventure out of these folks!
I did a little research and realized that these three could have met up at some times in their life. They didn’t that we know of, but wow that would have been an interesting camp fire! Porter Rockwell and Mark Twain talk more than J. Golden and I would have liked to learn more about him. When I saw the name Mark Twain on the cover, I was a little confused about why he was in the story. He is not, nor ever was a Mormon, but he did come through Utah, and ended up writing a book about Mormons and their women. It was negative and in the movie J. Golden Kimball and Porter Rockwell talk with him a lot about their religion and the mormons. They all leave better understanding each other!
