A few years ago I heard about heard about a fun things that a lot of homeschoolers do called a Poetry Tea party. I’ve been wanting to do this for a while and incorporate it into our own school, but I just haven’t gotten to it. I decided that making fun memories like this is important so I finally gathered up some poetry books and yummy food and after the kids were done with their morning chores and a little bit of school I told them to go downstairs and wait until I called them up for a fun surprise. My husband stuck around in the morning to help me, we had such a wonderful time. We decided to call it a Poetry & Etiquette Party.
How to Host the Perfect Poetry & Etiquette Party
I decided to do juice and make it more of a little lunch. My husband helped make tuna and peanut butter sandwiches that we cut out in little circles. I never buy white bread so I knew my kids would be so excited about having white bread sandwiches. I also was excited to get to review these new Little Bites® by Entenmann’s® and use them in our party! Their newest flavor is the Chocolate Party Cakes! They are filled with rainbow sprinkles, and taste delicous imilar to the fan-favorite original golden Party Cakes.! The new Little Bites® Chocolate Party Cakes are the latest edition to Entenmann’s® Seasonal Favorites line. Overflowing with flavor to treat the taste buds of chocolate lovers! They are only available nationwide for a limited time only from 1/14/17 to 5/20/17
Entenmann’s® Little Bites® contain no high fructose corn syrup, are made with real ingredients, certified Kosher, and are less than 200 calories per pouch. We are on kind of a low sugar diet right now and so I thought these would be perfect because they are small, and it’s fun to have a little treat to go with the party. My kids loved them! My husband said they taste like chocolate marshmallows! Not sure what he meant by that but we all really liked them. As you can see they were gone first 🙂
The kids loved the Poetry & Etiquette Party. They were so excited when they came up the stairs and saw the table. I thought it would be fun to either read from a chapter book or read some poetry. I placed books all around the kitchen table so that if the kids wanted to they could open it up and find something that they wanted to read. I only had two poetry books unfortunately, but we ended up reading a book we are loving called Carry On Mr. Bowditch. I walked them to their seats and we taught the kids proper etiquette. My boys are not too terrible with our table manners, but they do talk over each other and are sometimes improper at the table. We talked a little bit about etiquette, and then I read some poems, and a couple chapters out of our book.
It was so fun and I totally recommend this for any family, not just homeschooling families. Imagine how much your kids would love this if they saw it when they got home from school with a little after school snack, those little delicious cakes and juice or herbal tea! They would love it. You don’t have to go all out and make it super fancy, as you can see I just use the dishes that I already had, paper product and I went to the Library for poetry books, I also could have used some poems from here!
There are so many fun ways you could do this Poetry and Etiquette party! You could have your kids dress up in Sunday dress, or pick a theme for each time you do it! You could do a Silly Poem Day, or a Dr. Suess Day! You could even pick one poet to study each time. We are going to be doing this monthly from now on because my kids loved it and so did I! There are so many ways you could make this fun, and it will be a great memory your kids will love!
