I have grown up Living in Utah so I guess I don’t reallyhave anotehr place to compare it to, but I really do love living here! While I would love to live in another state for a while, I know I would want to be back in Utah! I have a guest blogger who is a Californian who loves living in Utah! I agree with what Alek has to say about why living in utah is great!
Why I Love Living in Utah By Alek S.
I felt a little crazy telling all my friends in California that I’d decided to live in Utah. And years later, I’m still conscious of the “really? Utah?” looks that I’ll get when talking with people on the plane. But the truth is that I love living in Utah. And it’s not just about the cheap living costs.
There is definitely a reason that Utah has become one of the fastest growing states in the great American West! Many people, all over the country, have noticed that Utah is full of great benefits that are drawing people from all different walks of life to live here. Here are several of the reasons that people are packing up and moving to Utah…
Friendly business environment
One of the primary draws that Utah has on so many people is its strong and sturdy economy, which weathered the recession and grew considerably during the recovery. The major reason for this is that the state has a wonderful environment for businesses that are getting started, which has inspired growth and revenue across all of Utah. This friendly business atmosphere doesn’t shine brighter anywhere more so than Salt Lake City, which is full of startups and established businesses, alike. The greater outdoors
I always say that if Utah’s small-town living is getting frustrating to you, all you need to do is venture into the mountains to remember why you love to be here. Gorgeous landscapes decorate the entire state. You can easily traverse sprawling deserts at sunrise, hike through snowy peaks, view red rock monuments, and sail around islands of bison and adventure by the sunset, all in the same day. Utah’s scenery is diverse, yet always gorgeous in its own unique way. Indeed, the state of Utah already has 5 different national parks that draw visitors from all over the world, and its state parks and national forests are nothing to sneeze at either (the Uintas are the ultimate go-to for backcountry hiking.) Utah is full of activists who strive to keep up a long running conservationist streak to keep the state’s nature preserved.
Greatest snow on Earth!
Although the state’s motto is simply the word “industry,” it might as well be the “greatest snow on Earth,” which is what so many people have come to know about Utah. The powder in Utah is some of the best in the world, when it comes to skiing. This is because the dry climate helps the snow from becoming too heavy and sloshy, which can make skiing an absolute nightmare. From Park City Resort to Snowbasin, the sheer number of ski resorts in Utah goes to show just how much people around the world love to come and enjoy the majestic mountains here.
Great family environmentUtah is, first and foremost, a state for families. The communities here are full of friendly and helpful people who go through great lengths to look out for one another and care for one another. There is a strong-running culture of support for family values that runs strong to Utah’s core. This is why so many young families have migrated to Utah, in order to find a terrific environment to raise children and establish a home.
Great industry
Industry has remained strong in Utah (as said above, it is actually the state’s motto), which has kept the number of quality jobs steady and growing. Not only do refineries and factories in the state continue to grow and develop, but mining is an industry that is still alive and well with the Kennecott Copper Mine (indeed, mining is still an industry that is key to America’s economic success, as shown in this article here.) The friendly business environment of Utah also helps to sustain this steady influx of industrial jobs, which keeps families supported, economically.
Film and music culture
Most people in North America have heard of the Sundance Film Festival. Indeed, it is actually one of the most popular film festivals in the world, and it is located only 30 minutes from Salt Lake City (actually, many of the screenings actually take place in Salt Lake City.) This might seem random, but it shouldn’t to anyone who knows how culturally strong Utah cities like Salt Lake City and Ogden have become. Film and music culture is thriving in Utah, and popular bands continue to rise in popularity, along with an influx in film culture.
