If you know me and have followed this blog for awhile you know how much I love Christmas books! I’m a collector and lover of children’s books, but I especially love Christmas books. I know it’s a little soon to be telling you about Christmas stuff, but I wanted to share with you this new book written by Jacob Haslem and Nick Allen, and illustrated by Elissa Weaver. The book is called The Gift Giver.

I absolutely love this sweet book that teaches the true meaning of what Christmas is all about. The Gift Giver uses Santa to teach this little boy why gifts are given at Christmas time. This book shares a sweet story about a little boy who wakes from his sleep on Christmas Eve and sees a man in a red suit. To his disappointment he only places three gifts for the boy in front of the tree! The boy exclaims that he only brought him 3 gifts. The boy goes on to tell him that he has been a very good boy and that he thinks he deserves more gifts. Santa then sits and talks with the boy about what the true meaning of Christmas is, and why the gifts are given. He tells him he has been good and that he has given him gifts and they will bring him joy, but that these gifts are only meant to remind him of something far greater and he goes on to explain why he brings gifts.
The whole message of The Gift Giver is to teach children about the origin of Christmas, and Father Christmas and why he brings presents is to remind people of God’s love and that it’s not all about if the children were good that year or if they get what they wanted. The gifts we get at Christmas are a symbol of the gift God gave us, His Son Jesus Christ. I love this book because it really does teach the true meaning of why gifts are given at Christmas. The illustrations in this book are beautiful. It is a sweet and simple book to read as a family. We do the 25 books leading up to Christmas and I can’t wait for my kids to get to listen to me read this story. We do Santa in our house, but we don’t focus on him very much at Christmas. He brings our children one gift and they love it, but they also understand why the gifts are given. I think so many children don’t understand why, and feel that they deserve more and more gifts each year. I love that this story explains that the gifts are given out of love and as a symbol and reminder of the ultimate gift, our Savior Jesus Christ.
Here is a sweet video with some of the words and illustration from the book…
I love this quote on their website..
Have you ever wondered why I bring you gifts?
Two thousand years ago, unto us a child was born. Unto us a son was given. Out of the manger a child would grow into a man. A man would become the promised Savior, and would send a message in all that he would do. That message would fill the world… with hope, with peace, with Joy. On that day, a gift for all men was given, and because of all that He did, and what He became, another would be given the task to remind as many as would believe of the greatest gift the Father ever gave.
I am super excited for Christmas this year and for all of our fun family traditions we do to help my children remember the true meaning of Christmas! This Book, The Gift Giver will be a great addition to our Christmas Book Collection. Click HERE to find more of my favorite Christmas Books.
