A few years ago my daughter started piano & violin lessons with a great teacher that taught her both during the same lesson. Â She move, which we were super sad about, and then we ended up moving also. Â We moved to a town where there was one violin teacher. Â She was young and leaving for a mission, but we had her teach my daughter for about 6 months until she left. Â We started doing violin with an orchestra in town, but couldn’t find anyone near us that we could afford for piano. Â I told her to just keep working on the violin, and we would figure something out. Â I also wanted my 8 year old son to start piano, but we live way out of town and money is tight, so I knew it wasn’t really an option. Â I was reading through a homeschool forum and someone mentioned Hoffman Academy Online Piano lessons, an amazing FREE program! There is nothing better than a great service for FREE! Â Sometimes free really isn’t that great, but this is AWESOME!
All you need is a piano (or keyboard) and Mr Hoffman teaching you on some sort of electronic device.  You don’t need an iPad to take the lessons, you can do it with a laptop, computer, cell phone, or any tablet you can have near by your piano.  Preferably on the piano.  You do have to register, and with that you get weekly emails, can email the teacher for free, and they also have a great Facebook page where you can ask questions.  I am sure you are wondering what the catch is, there really is no catch. The lessons are totally free!!!  To get even more out of your learning, the Complete Materials for each Unit of 20 Lessons (which includes activity pages, sheet music, practice instructions, and MP3 files) costs $19. That’s less than $1 per lesson! Great deal, and totally worth it.  My kids like the work sheets and they are very helpful.  My son was soooo excited the other day when he came out and showed me a short little song he had composed in his worksheets.  I use sheet protectors and dry erase markers so the we can reuse them for all the kids.  When he is done he just wipes it clean!
Currently right now they have 4 units of 20 lessons each. I hear that they are coming out with unit 5 later in the fall. Â I started it with my son on the first day of school and by the end of the lesson he was so excited he had learned how to play Hot Cross Buns! He has been doing it for 2 months now and is on lesson 14, but he has had to slow down a little since it is starting to challenge him a little more. Before he was doing about 3 lesson a week, but now he is between one and two, along with practicing the lessons in between. Â My daughter has breezed though those first lesson and is starting the second unit. Â And guess what, this might sound lazy, but I haven’t had to help them at all. Â Mr. Hoffman does it all. Â I just walk in at the end of the lesson and they perform for me! Â It’s awesome!
