Hi, I’m Jessie and I blog over at Life as Mrs. Larson. I am a mom to a 2.5 year old boy and 9 month old baby girl. I love hanging out with my kiddos, making messes, playing hard, and learning tons. I have an awesome husband or works super hard so that I can stay home and raise our kids. Life is pretty good as Mrs. Larson. Today I am super excited to guest post and I hope you enjoy!
I remember a tradition that I loved growing up, and that was making gingerbread houses. We would get all our cousins together one day after school and build our houses. It was always so much fun and something I looked forward to all year long.
Last year I wanted to start this tradition with my little boy, but at just 21 months old I thought he was too young for gingerbread houses. Then I had an idea. I could see his infatuation with the Christmas tree in our house and the ones he could see all over town. A little light bulb went off in my head. Instead of decorating gingerbread houses with candy, we decorated Christmas Trees. It was the perfect solution and we can’t wait to do it again this year! Here’s what you need to make your own edible
Christmas trees:
Items Needed:
Sugar Cones (make sure you get ones that are flat on top so they will stand upright)
Green Frosting
Candy to decorate
Depending on how young your child is, you can help them with frosting their “Tree”. Place candy into bowls and let the kids go crazy decorating their trees. Invite over some family or friends and make a day out of it.
If you have older children and want to go the traditional route of making gingerbread houses, then these add the perfect landscaping effect! A gingerbread house isn’t complete without a tree!
I love that I am able to carry on this tradition in my own family and I would love it if it became a tradition in your family as well.
Merry Christmas!
Thanks Jessie. I love making gingerbread houses, but with 3 young kids that don’t really like to do the gingerbread house, they are going to love this. Plus I don’t really care if they eat it! Less time on the counter! You should all go check out Jessie’s blog. It is so cute! Also you can follow Jessie on Facebook, Pinterest, Google +, and Twitter
