I just adore Hilary Weeks, I think she does so much good in the world! From her amazing singing, songwriting, to her wonderful talks and inspirational messages. She is definitely a light in this world.
I remember a few years ago when I went to Time Out For Women (which I am going to this weekend, and I am so excited!) she spoke and talked about her clicking experience. Just watch this fun clip. I promise it is worth the 7 mins of your time.
Since her “Clicking” experience she has encouraged all of us to think positively. She has started a website called BillionClicks.org where she shares her story, sells clickers, has inspiring blog post from fellow clickers and also has a place where you can track your clicks! She is on a mission to change the world for good…one click at a time! With almost 3.5 billion clicks they hope to reach one billion! This is another fun video she did about Clicking…
A few weeks ago Hilary (we are totally on a first name basis) sent me a clicker and it so happened that I really needed it, not only for myself, but to teach my kids. It came at the perfect time. Let me tell you why…..
The same day the clicker came we were studying our literature book, Julius Cesar, and talking about soliloquies. A soliloquy is when a person in a play is alone on stage and is sharing their thoughts out loud with the audience. As we went to apply this to our lives we talked about what our thoughts would be if we said them out loud. We talked about how we think, and how our thoughts make us who we are. I talked to the kids about the affect thinking negatively can have in our lives. Then I opened the box and pulled out the clicker. I showed the kids her clip, and then we clicked all day long. It was so fun to see my kids run over and click a bunch of times and then say, “I just had a positive thought”. My funny 5 year old came to me at the end of the day and said, “Mom, what does ‘positive’ mean?” I laughed and explained to him what it meant, but he already knew because he had been clicking good thoughts all day.
The next day I put the clicker in my pocket and tried to see how many positive thought I had in one day. I was close to 100 when my 2 year old found it and ran off with it and started adding more clicks (then I started to think negative… “naughty 2 year old!” :). So, because of that I am not sure how many I got, but I am sure it was over 100. It was interesting because every time I went to think something negative, I felt the clicker in my jacket and changed my thinking. My 7 year old would come up to me and ask if he could do something for me (which usually doesn’t happen very often) like hold the baby, throw away a diaper etc, and then he would come back after and say, “done mom…did you have a good thought? How many did you have?” I would pull out the clicker and click a few times!
Now you might think carrying around a clicker is silly or that you can think positive thoughts without a clicker, you are somewhat right, but believe you me it helped me/us so much to have that tangible thing in my hand/pocket reminding me to be positive. In fact I am going to have it out all the time so that we remember to think positively. It helped me not get frustrated with my kids, it helped me when I felt like I was running as slow as a turtle during my morning run, it helped me to not get frustrated with my husband. Really this clicker works!
