You know those books you don’t want to put down. The ones you read in bed until your eyes are so tired that the book is laying on your face when you wake up! Blackmore was that kind of book. I read about 100 pages last night trying to finish it. I could not put it down! That’s pretty normal, right? But the silly thing about that is I was in bed holding my flip phone, and using the light from that to finish the book, trying not to disturb my husbands soundly asleep next to me. The whole time I was thinking why do I not just go out on the couch and finish the book with better light?. Oh well!
Shadow Mountain, through Deseret Book, has a new line of clean romance novels called A Proper Romance. I love a good clean romance novel! If you have read Edenbrooke, you are going to love Blackmore written by the same author, Julianne Donaldson. The book is set in England’s Regency period, and tells a beautiful story about a young women named Kate who knows she can never have what she truly wants in life, and because of that tells the man she loves and everyone around her that she will never marry. Having always wanted to visit her lifelong friends stately manor of Blackmore, she finally gets the opportunity to go. It was not what she expected and she realizes she has to make some big decision about her life while she is there. With a crazy mother who tries to take all control of Kate’s life, to the man she loves being betrothed to another woman, and having a dream to travel to India, Kate is forced to free herself from the cage she has been placed in and figure out what is best for her!
One of the things I loved about this book is that is was not totally predictable like some romances are. I loved the twist and turns in the book that helped me as a reader to want to keep reading to find out what was going to happen.
