I am loving teaching the Young Women (Mia Maids age 14-15) in my ward. I haven’t served in Young Women’s for over 10 years, so when my husband started telling me all about the new Come Follow Me teaching curriculum I was so nervous, but now that I am teaching it, I am loving it. It is a lot different then the old manuals. It’s very flexible in choosing what to teach, and encourages you to have the girls share and talk a lot. I haven’t had perfect lessons, sometimes the girls don’t really want to share much, but I know that they are learning a lot this year, and as we keep going they will feel more comfortable to share. I saw this idea on Sugerdoodle and decided to tweak it a little bit. When they are struggling answering the questions I ask, then I ask them to go ahead and write it down. Usually someone will share what they wrote after that. It just gets their minds focused if I have them write the answer out first.
I also have promised them to have a “Glue In” each week. They, for some reason, love glue ins and are so excited to make a book full of them. I usually get them off Sugardoodle, but have made a few of my own.
I am using these cute pages for each month from the same sight Apples 4 Bookworms. So that each month the girls have new sections for what is being taught. Each lesson they glue in their handouts, write about their feelings of what they learned and write their assignment for the week.
Most of the girls bring their binders each week, a few of them forget. I have started texting their parents to remind them to bring them.
This month the lessons are all about the Atonement so I made these handouts. I love this quote and am so grateful to be able to teach the girls all these important principles to strengthen their testimonies and help them to get closer to Christ and to follow Him.
