Unplug. Pop. Connect. – Popcorn isn’t just for Watching Movies

May 20, 2015 by The Things I Love Most

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of JOLLY TIME Pop Corn for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.

Summer is upon us now and one thing I don’t want is my kids asking me to play electronics all day long. Most of my kids are pretty good with it, but I have two boys that if I let them, they would play electronic games all day.  Thankfully we have rules in our family for electronic privileges, but still, it’s not easy.   During the week the kids each have an amount of time they can either play games or watch a show.  I am usually only on my computer in the moorings, and evenings and maybe for an hour in the afternoon working after we are done with school, during the kids quiet time. About a year ago I shut down the internet and Facebook app on my phone because I realized I was waisting time on scrolling through Facebook, when I could have been doing other things.  My kids are pretty good about being unplugged, I’ll telly you how they are when they are teenagers, but for right now we don’t have big issues with phones and electronic devices.  Sundays we have started to make our Unplug Day, where the kids don’t get to play games, or the wii or watch TV.  I am probably the worst on Sunday because when we get home from Church I love to scrapbook, which I do digitally.  I try not to blog at all, or look at social media stuff, but I do sit on my duff and scrapbook for about 2 hours while the kids play games with dad.  I don’t feel too guilty about it, but have realized that maybe I could be better about unplugging once a week!  PUC 1You’ve all heard of JOLLY TIME Pop Corn! The American Pop Corn Company of Sioux City, Iowa, is an independent and family-owned company that, for more than 100 years, has produced and marketed JOLLY TIME Pop Corn, the first-ever branded popcorn. JOLLY TIME offers a variety of traditional, microwave and ready-to-eat popcorn products in grocery stores nationwide and in nearly 40 countries around the globe.   When you think of eating Pop Corn you usually think of gathering around a TV/Movie and shoveling it into your mouth.  Well, popcorn isn’t only for movies!  It’s a great snack for just about anything!  JOLLY TIME Pop Corn is encouraging families to disconnect from all technology and enjoy some quality time. They want families to Unplug Pop Connect! For example: Turn off the TV, pop a bowl of your favorite JOLLY TIME Pop Corn and break out the family board games!   I took the JOLLY TIME Pop Corn family pledge and encourage all families to take this pledge!  It’s simple, all you have to do is go HERE and make your pledge saying what you are going to do to connect.  Making the pledges also means you’ll have a chance to win a free Unplug. POP. Connect. prize package including a POP Moment bag, free samples of JOLLY TIME Pop Corn and more.

Here is how we decided to Unplug. Pop. and Connect as a family!

This last Sunday was the day when we decided to unplug!  We put our electronic devices away, and connect. I thought about doing a family game night, my kids wanted to go to a park and my husband didn’t really care. I made the final decision. There is an exit that I have seen close by our house for the last 9 years that we have lived here and we haven’t ever taken it.  It goes up the canyon to Kolob.  So I decided that we would go up the canyon, drive around, find a park to play and eat our popcorn!   I bought the individual small bags of JOLLY TIME Pop Corn and got each kid a water.  We loaded up in the van and headed out. Kolob
Check out these views I have been missing for the last nine years! Why haven’t we ever driven up here is beyond me?? It was about 20 minutes up to the to look out. The view was breathtaking!

Kolob 2 We found a parking lot that was empty after and the kids got their rollerblades and scooter out and we ate popcorn, took goofy pictures and went on a tiny little walk to a pretty view!  It was gorgeous!PUC2 I love spending time with this cute family of mine!  We all have so much fun together.  PUC3  So visit JOLLY TIME Pop Corn on Facebook and share your family pledge!

What are you going to do with your family when you Unplug. Pop. and Connect?

I love the picture of your daughter rollerblading and eating popcorn – that is exactly what mine did yesterday. I love that popcorn makes a great snack all the time, not just at the movies.
