3 Ways to Reduce Allergens in Your Home + Giveaway

April 10, 2015 by The Things I Love Most

“This post has been compensated by Swiffer and Febreze. All opinions are my own! Read my disclosure policy for more information.”

I’ve been talking a lot about cleaning as of late and wanted to share these tips with you!  I love spring time, but I do not like allergy season. I guess they kind of go hand in hand though! I’m not as affected by allergens as some members of my family are, but it is always  great idea to reduce the allergens in your life by first starting in your home.  It’s really the only place you can control.  Dust mites and dander might be all over our house along with other inanimate allergens.  Before I share with you the 5 ways to reduce allergens in your home, I want to share wit you a tip about the cleaning products you mint be using and how they just might not be helping!

3 Ways to Reduce Allergens in Your Home | The Things I Love Most

The key is to use Use Allergen Reducing Products!

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America (AAFA) says, when it comes to cleaning, many people may actually be doing it wrong, stirring up the very allergens they are trying to remove from their homes.  I know the happens to me when I dust especially.  Swiffer and Febreze have partnered with the AAFA to help us reduce allergens in our home on a daily basis!  Their products can help consumers clean properly while also effectively reducing inanimate allergens around the home, from window blinds to carpet and many surfaces in between.

3 Ways to Reduce Allergens in Your Home

Dust the Whole House from Top to Bottom – When I dust I start with my ceiling fans and plant shelves, then I move to tops of doors, dressers, shelves, TV, pictures frames and any other dusty surface that might be in the house.   I used the Swiffer Duster (Unscented) to help me with this process.

Also don’t forget to dust the blinds.  Worst job ever, but it has to happen!3 ways to Reduce Allergens in Your Home | The Things I Love Most

This duster works SO well. It sticks right to the duster a locks the dust away with thousands of flexible, fluffy fibers.   Swiffer says that their dusters traps 2X more than a typical dusting cloth and 3X more than a feather duster.  I was able to dust my whole house and only use one duster sheet.    I also used the 360º Dry Duster (Unscented) to help me get in my blinds and other nooks and crannies.

Sweep, Mop and Vacuum –  The next step after you have cleaned all your surfaces and dusted is to sweep, mom and vacuum.

3 ways to Reduce Allergens in Your Home | The Things I Love Most

As mentioned before, cleaning with the wrong tools can stir up inanimate allergens from pet dander and dust mite matter that accumulate in high places (think tops of doors, cabinets and windows), causing them to land in lower places instead being removed. That’s why I recommend starting up top first, then cleaning big surfaces like floors last with a Swiffer Sweeper Dry (Unscented) – not only does it get a better clean by trapping and locking dust but it also saves you time. 3 ways to Reduce Allergens in Your Home | The Things I Love Most

Clean Fabrics – Curtains, Couches, Sheets, Mattresses and Stuffed can be full of dust mite matter and pet dander. Make sure to wash them in water that is at least 130 degrees Fahrenheit. In between washes, spray with Febreze Fabric Refresher Allergen Reducer (Unscented). I love having clean couches.  I don’t get around to as much as I like, so having the allergen reducer spray is going to be really nice.  You may be someone who regularly cleans their couches, decorative pillows, upholstered furniture and carpets with a quick vacuum, fluff of a pillow or dusting. One great trick is to spray these hard-to-wash fabrics with Febreze Fabric Refresher Allergen Reducer (Unscented) before using your vacuum, to ensure you are reducing the inanimate allergens that may be hiding within. Extra bonus: it helps reduce inanimate allergens that can become airborne from fabrics as well.

*Some other great tips I have heard are to keep you home clean and uncluttered.  Also, if you want pets, but struggle with allergies, get outside pets. Leave your windows closed to prevent entry of Pollen, although that is so hard to do during the spring time.  Clean your air filters, or change them if that is the kind you have,  Vacuum a couple times a week,

Frebreze and Swiffer have offered to give one of my readers their own kit to help you reduce allergens in your house! You will receive everything you see here…. 3 ways to Reduce Allergens in Your Home | The Things I Love Most
