Before I Was a Mom {Free Printable}

September 10, 2010 by The Things I Love Most

I have been super busy lately with projects {posts to come}, and we are going camping today {which is well needed and we are very excited about.} I have wanted to share a post about how grateful I am to be a mommy!! Don’t you love being called “Mommy” by a sweet voice as they wander the house looking for you? As hard as the job is, it is so rewarding and so wonderful. I have the best children ever. They aren’t perfect, but they fit perfect in our family! I am so grateful that Heavenly Father has blessed me with my children. They teach me so much and I can’t even imagine how boring life would be with out them. Don’t get me wrong I love my husband a ton, and I am sure if we didn’t have kids we would have fun traveling the world, but really kids make life so fun, and I would much rather be reading a story, having dinner with my family, and being together than traveling the world {although a trip would be nice, I guess that’s why we are going camping, and that will have to do for our “world travel” plans for now!!

I found this quote/poem a long time ago and thought I would share it with you!

Before I Was a Mom

Author Unknown

Before I was a Mom
I made and ate hot meals.
I had unstained clothing.
I had quiet conversations on the phone.

Before I was a Mom,
I slept as late as I wanted
And never worried about how late I got into bed.
I brushed my hair and my teeth everyday.

Before I was Mom
I cleaned my house each day.
I never tripped over toys or forgot words of lullabies.

Before I was a Mom
I didn’t worry whether or not my plants were poisonous.
I never thought about immunizations.

Before I was a Mom
I had never been puked on
Pooped on
Spit on
Chewed on
Peed on
Or pinched by tiny fingers

Before I was a Mom
I had complete control of:
My thoughts
My body
And my mind.
I slept all night.

Before I was a Mom
I never held down a screaming child
So that doctors could do tests
Or give shots.
I never looked into teary eyes and cried.
I never got gloriously happy over a simple grin.
I never sat up late hours at night watching a baby sleep.

Before I was a Mom
I never held a sleeping baby just because I didn’t want to put it down.
I never felt my heart break into a million pieces
When I couldn’t stop the hurt.
I never knew that something so small
Could affect my life so much.
I never knew that I could love someone so much.
I never knew I would love being a Mom.

Before I was a Mom
I didn’t know the feeling of having my heart outside my body.
I didn’t know how special it could feel to feed a hungry baby.
I didn’t know that bond between a Mother and her child.
I didn’t know that something so small
Could make me feel so important.

Before I was a Mom
I had never gotten up in the middle of the night every 10 minutes to make sure all was okay
I had never known the warmth
The joy
The love
The heartache
The wonder
Or the satisfaction of being a Mom.

I didn’t know I was capable of feeling so much before I was a Mom.

I love being a mom! Isn’t it the greatest?

Being a MOTHER is the best! I love when my little boy calls me mama. None of my other children did or do. It’s his special name for me. ☺

Yes, being a mom is an incredible experience. I think of the women out there who choose not to have a family and my heart breaks for them. I am thankful everyday for my little blessing(s)!
