Oh summer! You have been wonderful to us! I love you and really am not ready to say good-bye yet…so I’m not going to! I think it’s still summer even though school is starting! Especially since it’s still 100 degrees and wonderful outside in the evening. School just started here yesterday for most kids. I’m not starting until next week, but it will just be a slow start, and we will be full fledge back to school the first week of September. I am actually really excited for school to get started. It’s been a fun summer, but my kids are ready for a little more structure in their life and so am I. Even though we homeschool, my kids seem more well behaved during the school year! I have been wanting to have a summer barebecue in my back yard for the last while. It seems like forever since we’ve had friends over to just chill and enjoy the evening. Since the weather is cooling down a little I decided to invite a bunch of friends over and have a Back to School Barbecue! We decided to host the Back to School Barbecue the Monday before school started for family night! I had so much fun shopping with my husband at Walmart to pick up supplies. I know, shocking that I had fun shopping with my husband, normally he is grumpy at the store, but when it’s just us and no kids we have a great time wondering the store!
We found some pretty fun item to use at our party! Click here for coupons to some of the items, You can also enter this sweepstakes from the page below:

I knew I wanted a back to school theme. I found some cute decorations and had so much fun decorating! I decided to go with the traditional American theme of hot dogs and BBQ chicken. I got Dr Pepper® Cherry soda (you can use 2-liter or the cans) to make my delicious chicken recipe, well it’s really my husbands because he made it, but it is good! (recipe coming soon) We also got some yummy ingredients to make an amazing cheese dip I make (recipe also coming soon).
We picked up some M&M’s®, Skittles® and Starburst® to eat, but also to play a game with. SNICKERS® Ice Cream Bars and M&M’s® Cookie Ice Cream Sandwiches for dessert! I also picked up Juicy Fruit Starburst® Gum and Life Savers® Hard Candy Variety for a little goodie bag for everyone to take home! We didn’t forget our dog friends either. Almost everyone at the party has a dog, so I made them little doggie bags and put in Pedigree Dentastix®! They turned out really cute!
I had so much fun getting ready for the Back to School Barbecue! It was a super busy week for me to throw a party, but I needed a few hours to spend with some good friends and just relax before life got busy! They all brought a side dish and we just ate and chatted the night away, while the kids ran around like crazy! It was a perfect evening! Here is what we did at our

Party Game Tutorials
What’s a party with out games! We played some fun games using the candy I bought. The first game is the M&M’s®, or you can use Skittles®, game. We mixed them, which was a little weird, but no one seemed to mind. The second game we played was with just the adult mamas. I guess it could call it the Unwrap the Starburst® with your Mouth Game! Here is how you play these two games! The M&M’s® Game
For this game all you need is a dice and a knife and a bowl of M&M’s® For this game you pass the dice around and when you roll a certain number that person has to try to get the M&M’s® out of the bowl with a knife. They keep going trying to get as many as they can out of the bowl until someone else rolls the number. We did #3 and #6 which seemed to give everyone the perfect amount of time to play. Everyone had a blast playing the game and got a little too into it!
Unwrap the Starburst® with your Mouth Game
This game is probably one you all know, but its always fun to play. All you have to do is pick a Starburst®, put it in your mouth and try to open it with your teeth. Some say that the faster you are at this game the better kisser you are! HA. I won! We also had some fun games in the front yard set up like Water Balloon Toss and Soccer! We had a great back to school barbecue. It’s fun to see all these kids get so excited to go back to school! I wish it could have lasted longer because I sure love being around my awesome friends and their sweet kids! The food was so yummy, but the company was the best part!

What a fun way to go back to school! That Dr. Pepper chicken looks delicious and that M&M game sounds fun…we may have to try it at our next family party!
