Growing up I didn’t have a very big yard to take care of. We were backed up to a park that the neighborhood paid someone else to take care of. We had a small garden and would plant flowers every year together, but other than that we didn’t have a lot to do together as a family in the yard. I did like to mow the lawn every so often and I had to pull 100 weeds a day, and if we didn’t have them I had to go out to the park to pull them from the cracks in the sidewalk. I remember as a kid loving being out in the yard with my family on the days that we did go out and work on it together. I loved getting my hands dirty, clearing a space of weeds or adding beautiful flowers to a space in our yard. Since moving to this new place I have really really learned to LOVE yard work again, but especially I have learned to love doing it with my kids!
There is something about being outside working in the yard and accomplishing a task together that is so enjoyable. For the past 2 months we have dug up trees, cactus, bushes, weeded, planted a garden, worked on the lawn in the back yard and built a chicken coop. It has been so enjoyable to see my kids work hard and to talk with them while we are outside working as a family! I love to just let my kids talk while I weed and listen to what they have to say.
This is one of my favorite pictures of my son running out to take his turn in helping to till the garden. Yes it did take longer having the kids push the tiller, but my husband loved having them there willing to help!
