“I Hate Math!!”my 7 year old the other day! Oh boy, math can be a doozie for some kids. Thankfully he got over it and figured out that it really wasn’t too hard of a concept to understand. For the most part my kids do fairly well in math, but they all have their days when I wish I wasn’t their math teacher at the moment! My children are all very hands-on learners. We currently use Right Start Math and it was been very a good fit for them. My daughter is on the final book and then we are going to have to figure out where to go next. Currently my two older children are learning all about fractions and decimals. My oldest daughter who is 12 is learning about proper and improper fractions, converting mixed numbers to improper fractions, changing mixed numbers to improper fractions, and making decimals into fractions or vice versa. It’s a hard concept to understand. It’s been a bit rough teaching her, but ever since starting Woot Math last week she is understanding the concept very well! When I heard about WootMath – A New Hands-On Approach to Fractions & Decimals I was so excited to try it out.
Hands On Approach to Fractions & Decimals using Woot Math
Woot Math is a very hands-on approach to learning fractions and decimals. It has worked well with my kids because it teaches a lot like they do in Right Start Math, but is even more visual, to help my kids understand the concepts while having someone teach them and having pictures as examples to each problem.
Right now, For the 2015-16 school year Woot Math is 100% FREE! Isn’t that awesome!?! I really like this program a lot, so much that I would even pay for it. That is saying something, because I never pay for computer programs! You can watch a tour of how it works HERE! It is very easy to register. After you, as the parent or teacher, are logged into the teacher login you can add as many students as you need to. Each student logs into to their own account so that you, as the teacher can see their progress in the Teacher Dashboard.
There are currently 15 sections and lots of lessons in each section, starting with basic fraction and then moving on to decimals and the harder stuff. Your kids can start where they feel ready. It unlocks each lesson as you pass off the lessons and are awarded stars.
At the beginning of each lesson there is a teacher that explains the concept and then has you do some problems to see how well you understood. The lessons progress as you progress. If you don’t understand you won’t pass, if you are flying through it, and understand everything you get done faster. You can go back and forth as you like to help you understand each lesson.
After your child is done with their lessons you can see their progress in the Teacher Dashboard. You can see how long they worked, how many problems they got right or wrong and if they passed the level. It also tells what they are currently working on. This was from my daughters lesson from yesterday. You can see she did very well!
I’m excited to continue using this program. Right now it is free, which is so nice! It doesn’t have any banner adds or annoying sidebars stuff. Once you are logged in it is only the math program. I’m excited to continue using this program for all of my kids! You can use it on the web, or iPad.
