I have been on the lookout for a great math app. I found some that I like, but my kids don’t like them. I have also found some that I really don’t like because they’re not really math, and my kids sit there and try to convince me that they are doing math. Because I have 3 kids that I have to do math with every day I like to have some other stuff that they can be doing while I am rotating through each child to get their math lesson done. My daughter is getting old enough that she does most of her math by herself. I review the lesson with her and then she goes on to do the assignments. When my child is done with their main math curriculum, I like to have them play a math app, game or do a review of math facts! I think that doing review facts are really important.
I recently downloaded this new math app called Flip4Gold. I am really liking it because it actually makes them use their brain and do mental math while being fun and challenging. Recommended for ages 9+, but my 7 year old plays and likes it, although it is a bit challenging for him. (They do have a Flip4Gold Jr. you can also download for your younger kids) but younger kids can play this one and will enjoy the game as they learn number recognition and practice addition in Level One with the potential to progress to higher levels as their math skills improve. I also think it’s a good review for teens and adults! I played it for 20 mins the other day and was impressed by my skills! 🙂

Here are the reasons that I like the Flip4Gold Math App…
- I like that you can be challenged on different levels with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
- As you get better at each level it unlocks and lets you move to a new level.
- Kids earn badges as they pass levels.
- You can play with more than one child by rotating who does the problems.
- It’s free!!
- It has no 3rd party ads and no in app purchases.
- It allows for creativity, logical reasoning and problem solving skills by letting you answer the problem in two different ways. For example 2 + 4=5 + 1 or you can just put 2+4=6. It gives you options and lets you be creative in the answers.
My favorite level is the one with five lines of numbers. It’s fun to see how many numbers I can use to solve the problem. The goal of the game is to try to use as many numbers as you can by the end. The only thing that we didn’t like about this math app was that there wasn’t a lot of explanation on the point system. Although my son and I caught on pretty quick. Other than that it’s a great game for reviewing all your math facts.
I would totally recommend math app to all of my homeschool and non home school friends. My kids all like to have computer or iPad time, so why not have some of that time playing good math games that are fun!
