Westly: A Spiders Tale {Book Review}

October 2, 2015 by The Things I Love Most

Westly: A Spiders Tale by Byran Beus

The other day my son was telling me he didn’t love his name because he didn’t know anyone with the same name.  I had the same feelings a few times growing up. I thought that since my name was a little different people might think I was weird.  I was having a discussion with my kids about how each of us is different, none of us are the exact same, and how awesome it is that God made us that way!  How special we each are and how we each have our own divine nature and destiny to fulfill on this earth.  I truly believe that God wants us all to be different. I have four boys.  It’s been fun watching them as they grow up and show me how different they really are.  I could tell each of them wouldn’t be the same even when they were little babies!  It’s fun to see  that in them as they get older.  Westly: A Spiders Tale by Byran BeusNow onto why I am telling you this.  This cute story of Westly: A Spiders Tale is written in the style of a fable. The story teaches readers the importance of differences, and to believe that our biggest differences can be our greatest strengths. You will appreciate the positive values in empowering children to be the hero of their own stories and being resourceful to overcome obstacles. He learns there’s nothing wrong with being different. It’s our differences that allow each of us to contribute to the world in our own way. A fun read-aloud story about honesty, courage and individual worth.

My kids really loved this story and couldn’t stop talking about Westley and how awesome he was!  It is a very quick and fun read.  My 9 year old read it to my 7 year old in their beds at night!

SYNPOSIS:

This is tale of a caterpillar named Westly who is destined to be a Monarch butterfly and the next king of the butterfly kingdom. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way we plan. When Westly emerges from his cocoon he is nothing like he expected. He’s a spider! And he must navigate the social hierarchy with butterflies at the top and insects at the bottom and Westly somewhere in-between. Adopted by the “dirt eaters,” Westly is determined to make a difference. He is determined to belong, to be loved, and most importantly, to become who he was born to be.
