You would think that after reading like 5 regency romance novels this year I would be getting sick of them, but I’m not! I absolutely love them! I have been trying to figure out why I love them so much and I came to the conclusion that as we seen in Willowkeep and all the others that I have read this year, that even though there is an order to things, and that in those times you didn’t marry below your stations, they come to a realization that the stations don’t matter and that they are willing to fight for each other back of their love for each other no matter what social class they are in. I always love to put myself in their place and if I would do the same, marry for love or money.
Willowkeep by Julie Daines {Book Tour}
Product Description:
Charlotte Darby’s ship is sinking. Penniless and alone, she is struggling to care for herself and her young sister in the harsh seaport town of Hull. But when a solicitor from London brings news that she is the heir to a vast estate in Kent, it seems her days of rough seas are over. Willowkeep is prosperous and grand, far too much for a shipping merchant’s daughter to manage, and she quickly comes to rely on the help of Henry Morland, the estate’s kind and handsome steward.
Henry has worked hard his entire life, but all the money he’s saved won’t be enough to get his father out of debtor’s prison. And Henry’s fondness for Charlotte and her sister is only another reminder of his low status and lack of wealth. Though he is willing to do whatever it takes to keep Charlotte happy and looked after as the county’s wealthiest lady, she can never be his.
Courted by a charming man of the ton, threatened by those who want her money, and determined to keep her sister safe from the same fate that cost her the rest of her family, Charlotte must face some heartrending decisions. For no matter the size of the fortune, life—and love—are never smooth sailing.
My Review:
I loved this book from the first page when we meet Henry, the steward of Willowkeep, who comes for Charlotte, the poor girl who has inherited a large estate outside of London. A girl who has already gone though so much heartache after losing family, finds out that she is the heir to an estate called Willowkeep! Finding out that her mother married for love and married a man below her station and had lost her inheritance now years later her daughter will then inherit what her mother left. She has a young sister she has been taking care of in a seaport town. Her sister, who while we never find out what she has, would be considered a lunitic and encouraged to live in a hospital, is the only thing she has in her life that she can hold on to. She loves her dearly. When Henry sees the love she has in her eyes for the child he is very impressed with her the new heir to Willowkeep manor.
Both Henry and Charlotte have a lot in common when it comes to their past and the sadness they have seen. Henry reassures Charlotte that although Willowkeep is way above her that she will do well there. As Henry helps her get settled he realizes he has a growing fondness for her, which as a steward to an estate would not be seen as proper. As much as he tries to deny that he likes her his growing feelings help him realize that he might need to leave the Willowkeep. Meanwhile Charlotte is starting to feel the same way, but has promised herself she will never marry because of the heartache she has seen in her life. Henry and Charlotte soon realize that they can not be, but though some great struggles and hardship s they have to help each other through they, in the end realize that their love for each other is exactly what they need to go on.
I really really enjoyed this book. I loved all the characters in the story and loved how she introduced each of them. The story was very complete and whole. At the end of the book she closed up all the loose ends, and she even placed a few major run of events in that I was not expecting. I love the little sisters character because she reminded me of my sweet nieces and cousin who have down syndrome. What a blessing they are in our families life. I would for sure recommend Willowkeep. It is a great read for anyone. It is a clean and beautiful romance that I would recommend for high school age and up!
