Braces or Invisalign – If I had only known!

December 6, 2012 by The Things I Love Most

——————————————————————————–
I got braces when I was 12 and had them until I was 19.  Yeah, I know what you are thinking, “you had braces for 7 years….yes unfortunately I did?  My teeth didn’t have huge problems except one, I had one of my adult teeth in the roof of my mouth and had to have surgery and attach it to my braces and pull it down.  That took a long time.  Other than that the process was really really slow.  I had to make room for the tooth, and then I had to just have braces on like a normal person for the normal amount of time.  I hated those metal brackets, I hated smiling for the camera, I hated it all.  It was not fun.  I would get big cankers in my mouth from my braces catching on my cheek.  It was not a fun 7 years, especially having braces in college.

7727_1239815756987_6487600_n[1]You are lucky you get to see this gorgeous picture of me…yes wearing braces at my high school graduation.  Can’t see my pretty teeth at all
Those hats and big curly hair do not go good together, plus I had been crying, ya know those emotions of my life is over because high school is over!

Have you heard of Invisalign as a new alternative to braces. If I had only know about that route after my tooth was corrected I would have loved to use this option.  Invisalign has effectively straightened two million smiles and counting!
Check out the Invisalign website and read about the advantages over braces, comfort and convenience, and even health benefits.
Here are some advantages of Invisalign over braces you can find on their site, braces only do the first 2…

  • Effectively treats a wide variety of cases, including crowding, spacing, crossbite, overbite and underbite.
  • Straightens your teeth.
  • Average cost is about $5,000.*
  • Allows you to eat whatever foods you enjoy.
  • Lets you remove the device when you want.
  • Lets you enjoy virtually invisible teeth-straightening.
  • Allows you to brush and floss your teeth normally for better periodontal health.
  • Consists of smooth, comfortable plastic instead of sharp metal that is more likely to irritate your cheeks and gums.
  • Frees up your busy schedule, with office visits only every four to six weeks.
  • Invisalign Teen: Provides up to six free replacement aligners if lost or broken.**

You can take the Invisalign smile assessment here, and to see if they have a doctor in your area click here.
So I am sure you are wondering how much it will cost.  They have a cost calculator here on their site, but they say “The good news is that most individuals are pleasantly surprised to discover that the cost of Invisalign® treatment is usually comparable to the cost of traditional braces.”  I am totally going to consider this for my kids as they get older!

Haha! ThIs is how most of us were. I didn’t have braces fOr seven years but I did have glasses and braces and the only picture I have from graduation is the one where the light was hitting me just right so my braces were glowing. Ugh. But somehow we were all still friends… And isn’t it funny how we really did bawl our eyes out because we thought life was Over! Kodi

I love invisalign! I had it done just after I got married (12 years ago) and had them in for less than a year- it was sooo nice.
