Another book another month! I actually finished this book, My Fair Gentleman, before the new month so that is 4 books in one month, and I LOVED all of them!! I have loved all of these Proper Romances produced by Shadow Mountain. They are such lovely books (I say that like I am from that time period!) They are the kind I want to just lay on the couch and read them in one day kind of books, sadly, I can’t do that or else I feel guilty, so I read them at night and stay up way to late and regret it in the morning. Oh well, you gotta find time to read, right! This new book My Fair Gentleman was just a good as the others! This was the first Proper Romance written by Nancy Campbell Allen and it was excellent. She is already an amazing writer, and this just added to her great books!
My Fair Gentleman
This book is a fun twist on My Fair Lady. Jack Elliot, a rough, tough captain of a ship would rather be at sea than fixing the mistakes of his estranged grandfather, the late Earl of Stansworth. Instead, he finds that inheriting his grandfather’s wealth and title—and securing the welfare of his sister and mother—means joining the ranks of high society and living with the aristocracy. Not used to this lifestyle, but doing it for his mother and sister he goes a long with it hoping to get things settled and go back to sea.
Then enters Ivy Carlisle, the granddaughter of a dear friend of Jack’s late grandmother. Just like Mr. Higgins in My Fair Lady helps Eliza, Ivy is willing to teach Jack Elliot etiquette and properly introduce him, and his family into society. Jack soon learns that his challenge isn’t surviving his new lifestyle but surviving the conspiracies against him—as well as keeping himself from falling madly in love with his new tutor.
I really really really liked this book a lot. I love this time period and loved the twist of it being a little like My Fair Lady which was one of my favorite childhood movies to watch with my family. I loved all the characters in this story, from is Pug his valet, to Ivy’s Nana. They are all developed well and the story line is so sweet and fun. It would be a perfect read for anyone that loves Regency Romance novels!
