I can’t even tell you how much my daughter likes the American Girl Dolls. She started her love for them when we would check out books at the library about Kirstin and the other dolls, and read them together at night We got the catalog sent to us for free and then her love for them grew more and more.
I remember being a kid and reading all the Kirstin books, but didn’t even know they had dolls that were like the girls in the book. {I guess my mom kept that a secret from me so I wouldn’t beg for them.} This last year my daughter met a new friend who between her and her sister have about 8 AG dolls. That’s when she really started asking for one. A couple years ago we bought a Generation Doll from target for $35 for her for Christmas and about an hour after pulling her out of the box her hair was a mess and completely unfixable. But she was and still is loved by my 7 year old. This year it was a debate about buying an American Girl Doll. We had saved $100 for a doll, but I was just not sure if we should get it. We finally made the decision to get one for her. Parents spend ridiculous amounts of money on computer games and other electronics we figured this doll would be loved forever and never go “out” of style. And she has totally been loved. And I love her hair! We decided on Julie who except for the brown eyes looks a lot like my daughter. I told my Lala that I don’t think we will buy her another one, but that we could make paper dolls out of the dolls in the magazine. So we got out the catalogue…
Cut the dolls out that stand alone… Then started Laminating them…{I used my new awesome $20 dollar Purple Cow Laminator I got from Costco} And Waala!! We are just storing the in a plastic zip lock. bag
Great craft project for very little money!!

These are really cute. Good job!
I followed the link for the laminator and it was $70. Was it just cheaper at Costco, or has the price gone up? I got my laminator for $35 from target, but my friend is looking to buy one and if there’s a better deal, I’d love to help her out. Thanks in advance. :o)

Love this idea. I want one of these dolls for my daughter too but haven’t had the money. I’m eliminating the nonsense toys that the kids get wrapped up in and then ignore a week later. A doll like this is so much cuter and personal. Have you heard of Liberty Girls group? I think it starts at age six but I could be wrong. It sounds like a mix of girl scouts/achievement days like of activities that relate to the American girl book series.
