This is a continuation of yesterday’s post about our mornings.
Once EJ is asleep (around 9:30 or 10) we start our Family Devotional which consists of The Pledge, Prayer, Scripture Memorization, Patriotic song, Spiritual Song, Fun song, Poems and Bit cards.
Right now we are working on memorizing countries in Asia.
I will have a link to all of my stuff in my devotional box next Wednesday.
I also read them a picture book, mostly for my younger kids, but I know my older kids love it also!
This year we have worked really hard on memorizing the Articles of Faith.
The older kids passed all of them off today!
After devotional the older two kids go to their rooms and do Journal, Scriptures and Reading.
I work with Jack Jack on his journal, scriptures, phonogram cards, writing road to reading spelling, reading comprehension and his “R’s”. He struggles with his R’s and has come a long way since the beginning of the year. On Mondays and Wednesdays I do a little bit of Math with him, and on Tuesdays and Thursdays I do Language Arts stuff with him.
{It’s all Camo day for him!}
Little Mister chose to color today.
He also plays the LeapPad or ABCya.com or just plays with his toys.
Here are the older two writing in their journal!
Sometimes I sneak-a-peak and read them…they write the cutest things.
(Don’t worry, I told them I read them every so often!)
Little Mister is getting really good at coloring!
Then it’s math time. Monday and Wednesday we do math, and Tuesday and Thursday we do language arts.
I double the lessons so we do two a day.
(Fridays we do spelling test and Art or Music as part of our Family School and then go to Park Day for our communities Homeschool Co-op!)
While Cowboy is waiting for me to assist him with his math, he reads Gulliver’s Travels.
I went out on a limb and got him this book.
He has only read Magic Tree House books and was scared to read this.
He LOVED it!
He is loving reading which is amazing since he used to cry over reading a BOB book!
Yeah!!
He flies through his math in about 1/2 hour.
12:00 and it’s time for lunch!
Baby EJ wakes up and is starving!!
If we aren’t in a hurry to be anywhere, the kids get a free hour to do what ever they want.
Today Cowboy worked on scouts during his free time.
And this little artist listened to her favorite book on CD while drawing her new line of fashion!!
Other days they play Legos, go outside, or we run quick errands.
Once the house is settle and either the baby is back down for a nap or is busy playing, we do our Family School lesson. Today we did an art lesson and learned about Cathedrals. This is by far our favorite time of day. Usually, we do M-W Geography, History or Science and switch off weeks. Thursday is Literature day, and Friday is Art or Music! They LOVE the lessons and we have fun doing projects! We have learned so much this year! We LOVE the family school! I love that I can teach them all together but then the “Record” assignments are age level.
When we are done, if we have time and don’t have anywhere to be, after our lesson we have read aloud time. Today we read from the Bronze Bow, which we are reading for Literature. The kids are loving it! We just got finished reading Carry On, Mr. Bowditch which we really enjoyed!
*UPDATE: Lately we switched the whole day and start with the Family School and finish with the Language Arts or Math. It seems to give me more free time during the day and since my baby is sleeping I am able to help them better.
Jack Jack (5) doesn’t always sit through the whole lesson.
He got bored during the record part and went outside to work on his stick twirling today!
Little Mister is supposed to be napping, but is playing with toys instead.
Oh well, he stayed in his room!
After school the kids play outside.
We are usually done around 2:00, but not always.
Sometimes earlier, NEVER later!
We head outside to watch Jack Jack do his amazing stick twirl.
Cowboy sold tickets for the show!
Today we didn’t have any where to be so they played until around 5:00.
They get to watch a show a day.
Today it was Magic School Bus!
That’s the gist of our school day!
We are also busy with lessons, practice, scouts and activity days
Around six we have dinner.
The kids run around,Play Legos (I swear I have written this like 5 times, but they love Legos)
or read.
Or they have a pillow fight and wrestle with dad!
During this time we also do a quick clean up, load the dishwasher and put away laundry.
We don’t a have strict bed time. Usually they go to bed between 8 or 8:30.
We end our day with Gratitudes, Family Scriptures and Prayers and then Daddy reading time!
It may seem like a crazy day, but we love it!
It’s not always picture perfect, I yell sometimes, and want to pull my hair out, but most days are great!
I am grateful to be a stay at home homeschooling mama!
Hope you enjoyed my “Day In the Life” posts.

You make homeschooling look like anyone (mainly me) could do it!

I have been trying to decide if I want to use Latter-day Learning curriculum. I am glad to see you are still doing it after reading your post from last school year. Maybe I will try it. I already purchased & began using Apologia Zoology, so I am not sure about that part of Latter-day Learning yet. Any thoughts from you?
