Mysteries of Cove Bk. 2 – Gears of Revolution

September 27, 2016 by The Things I Love Most

If you haven’t read the Mysteries of Cove series by J. Scott Savage with your kids, it is a great read!  Last year my husband read the first book in this series to my kids, and they were so excited when the people from Shadow Mountain emailed me and said they were sending us a review copy of the second book in the series.  It is called Gears of Revolution!  They just finished the book last night and everyone loved it.  I actually haven’t had a chance to read it yet, so my husband and kids are going to help me out with the review!

Mysteries of Cove- Gears of the Revolution

About the Book:

After finding a compass and clues left by Kallista’s father, Leo Babbage, Trenton and Kallista head west aboard their homemade mechanical dragon to search for the missing inventor. The two teenagers hope to find answers about their mountain city of Cove, but instead, they find only a blackened forest, ruined buildings, and a small underground city

Almost immediately, Trenton and Kallista are caught up in a civil war between a clan of scavengers called Whipjacks and the Order of the Beast, people who believe that dragons are immortal and divine.

Stranded in a new city, the two friends meet Plucky, a Whipjack girl with mechanical legs, and Ander, a young member of the Order who claims humans are able to communicate with dragons. Can they trust anyone, or have they unknowingly stepped into a trap?

And high above in the sky, the dragons are gathering . .

My Husbands & Kids Review:

36 Year Old (Daddy) – Of course I loved it! I read it to my kids as many nights as I possibly could. One Sunday we read 11 chapters straight. It was entertaining enough for an adult but simple enough for a child to understand. The small twists and Mysteries woven throughout the book kept you wanting to read more and more.

13 Year Old- I loved this book! It was awesome! The author really brings the characters to life and gives the book twists and turns that I would never have expected! I love how he creates a vivid picture of the story. I can’t wait till the next book!

10 Year Old – The book was a really good one! I liked it a lot. It was full of mystery and awesomeness. It was even better than the first and I can’t wait for the next book. If they don’t make it I will die and if they make it while I’m dead it will have it be put in my casket so everyone can know I loved the series. One of the best series ever. I’ve read a lot of books about fiction and stuff like that and magic and inventions. I really like the book.

8 Year Old: My favorite part of this book is even though it kinda has a twist ending it is awesome.  He really liked that they found Leo Babbage in a place they never expected.

3 Year Old that listened to it while he fell asleep: It was my favorite, it was the best.
