The amazing and miraculous stories that I hear about missions and missionaries today makes me wish that I would have served a mission when I was 21. No I don’t regret getting married before then, but I know if the mission age had been 19 for sisters like it is now I probably would have served a mission, even though it scares me to death. I’m excited for the day that my husband and I can serve a mission together. I have never really thought about when sister missionaries started serving missions until I receive this book, Sweet is the Work, from Covenant Communications, It heped me realize the impact that sisters have had in the mission field and the sweet work that they participated in starting in the early days of the church.
Sweet is the Work: Lessons from the First Sister Missionaries
They might not have been set apart as missionaries but their impact as member missionaries has strengthened the church so much. It was amazing to learn about the stories of these sisters in this book and their faith and dedication to the work of the gospel and sharing it with others. These stories are short and simple and sweet with a powerful impact that the sisters had on the church in the early nineteen-hundreds. My favorite story was that of Mildred E. Randall. This lady was helping her husband serve a mission in Hawaii, but her husband up and left and she stayed and was dedicated to the church schools and teaching the gospel to those around her. You will love each and every one of these unique stories and this book. This would be a great book for anyone preparing to go on a mission, bute specially to learn the history of sister missionary work and the importance of it in the world today.
