7 Tips to Saving Time & Money in the Kitchen

June 24, 2016 by The Things I Love Most

Maintaining a household is a lot of work. What if I could give you some great tips to save money and time maintaining your home! For me I spend most of my days maintaining the kitchen.  I’m alway looking for ways to save time and money and at the kitchen is probably the easiest place to start!   Maintaining a kitchen, cooking, cleaning and preparing foods can take a lot of time! Today I am excited to share with you 7 tips to saving time and money in the kitchen!7 Tips to Saving Time & Money in the Kitchen

7 Tips to Saving Time and Money in the Kitchen

1-Buy Garbage bags that can hold a lot, but smell good!

A few weeks ago my husband grabbed some garbage bags for me on the way home from work.  After using them for one day they were terrible. They couldn’t hold very much and they didn’t have the ties so my kids were complaining every time they had to do garbages to have me help them tie a not, and how bad the garbage stunk!  They also weren’t very durable, so they couldn’t hold a lot of stuff.  I have always loved having good garbage sacks that you can load a lot into,  Hefty is a great brand that I know I can always rely on.  7 Tips to Saving Time & Money in the KitchenI recently got to try these Hefty Ultra Strong trash bags and they are awesome for their value, scent and durability.  I love scented trash bags, and in the Hefty Ultra Strong bags the Arm & Hammer odor neutralizers and new invigorating scents help keep odors at bay. Plus, there is also scent-free option! They are tear resistant so that the garbage or my kids can’t puncture them as easy and they are a great price!

If you have the Ibotta app on your phone, which I totally recommend (it’s a great coupon app that can save you money!), you can get $1.00 cash back after purchasing a box of Hefty trash bags! Click HERE to redeem after you have purchased!

2-Pre-cook Meat or make Freezer Meals

One thing I don’t always do, but wish I did is when I get home divide my meat up and pre-cooked my chicken and hamburger meat that I know I am going to want to use pre-cooked!  I also really love making freezer meals.  I just made 15 freezer meals and am loving the time I have NOT having to cook a full dinner every night!Pre-cook Meat or make Freezer Meals

3-Use a Paper Towel and a freezer bag to store fresh veggies to soak up the moisture

Lots of times our veggies go bad because of the moisture in the bag.  Take them out of the packaging, wrap a paper towel around them and place in a plastic bag. 7 Tips to Saving Time & Money in the Kitchen - Use a Paper Towel and a freezer bag to store fresh veggies to soak up the moisture

4-Pre-cut Veggies

How many times do you get in your fridge and not want to use something because of the time it takes to cut up? I do it all the time.  When you get home from the store, pre-cut some of your veggies that will stay good. You can do it with a lot of foods like lettuce, peppers, onions and even fruits like watermelon or cantaloupe.  Place in a zippered freezer bag and place a paper towel in there also!

5-Keep it Clean

When it comes to saving time, maintaining cleanliness can be huge.  Encourage your kids to help you keep your kitchen clean and organized.  Don’t let them leave things on the counter, teach them to put their dishes away and anything they bring home and are tempted to just place on the counter.

6-Clean Up Piles

My kids and husband aren’t always perfect at #5, so some times I have to make a pile for each of them and then tell them to come clean up their piles! It seems to work and it saves me time from having to put it all away!  It’s their responsibility anyway!

7-Wash Dishes at Night, Unload in the morning.

This is my favorite things to do ever.  I like to have an empty dishwasher all day long so that don’t have dishes in the sink all day long.  I have found if we start the dishes at night and unload in the morning (I give each of my kids a rack to do) then instead of the kids putting their dishes in the sink they can go straight into the dishwasher!

I am not perfect at all these things, but I find that I am saving time and money in the kitchen if I just do them. It might take me a little bit longer on grocery day, but then after that I save so much time, and money because things don’t go bad, I don’t have to use 2 garbage bags because the other one ripped and I get to have a clean and organized kitchen!

What are some of your favorite Kitchen time saving tips ?
