How do you know your Baby Gear is Safe?

January 19, 2015 by The Things I Love Most

Baby Gear Safety

I remember when I had my first baby 11 years ago.  I remember going out and registering for all the “baby gear” I would need to assist me in taking care of my baby.  The biggest, most stressful thing for me to buy was the crib set, and the second was the carseat.  I remember going to tons of stores, asking around and trying to find a good deal.  I also asked a lot of friends and family advice on how to make sure that the crib and carseat were safe and of good quality. That is a questions we all have as new moms buying products for our baby.  We want the best and safest things for them, but the question running through our mind is…”How do you know your Baby Gear is Safe?”.  I had an older sister who knew a lot about this subject and I was very grateful for her help!  I ended up ordering my crib set on Amazon, and while it was a great crib set I honestly am not sure it was the safest crib for my baby.  It was a little bit wobbly and didn’t seem like it would last through very many kids.  We only used that crib through 2 of our kids because it just didn’t seem that safe.  I wish back then that I would have known about looking for “safety seals” on baby products.

For all you new moms, and moms still in the baby phase of life, I am excited to tell you about JPMA and Baby Safety Zone today!  I wish I would have known about this when I first started having kids and buying baby products.  So what so what is JPMA?  It is The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA) which also includes The Baby Safety Zone.

A little about JPMA and their Certification Program and the Baby Safety Zone…

  • The JPMA Certification Program has been helping parents make the best product decisions for their babies for 35 years. The Certification Seal on a product proves that a manufacturer has
tested a product sample annually to an established standard. Be confident in the products you
    select for your little one!
  • The Baby Safety Zone is a website that is committed to reducing the number of nursery product related injuries through education and awareness about the safe selection and use of products, as well as preventative measures parents and caregivers can adopt immediately. The Baby Safety Zone is a place for parents and caregivers to learn from safety experts, share experiences with each other and have a good laugh about the trials and tribulations of raising a child in this day and age.
  • JPMA and the Baby Safety Zone recognize that parents and caregivers are always looking for baby product safety information, and lots of times navigating all of the facts and figures out there can be overwhelming at times.
  • The Baby Safety Zone is one single informative source on baby product safety. The Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association (JPMA), who powers the Baby Safety Zone, is an expert in the safe selection and use of baby products. We have a 100% commitment to have a 100% commitment to share that expert knowledge with parents and caregivers in a way that is fun and engaging.
  • On the Baby Safety Zone website there are some great areas where you can find certified products, build a nursery and review safety tips, along with tons of other great information and even a commuinty where you can ask questions.  They also have some great product safety videos on their site.  After looking around on the site, I wish I would have had this information at my figure tips when I first had my babies! It is seriously such an awesome website.

Check out this great infographic to help you better understand what the certification seal means….

So seeing this JPMA Certification Seal on products means quality, safety, performance and functionality, and that the product has gone through rigorous testing! Consumers can view the JPMA Certification as an added peace of mind when using certified products. Here is what the seal look like…

Also, if you aren’t sure about your product or about something you want to buy, HERE is a complete list of JPMA Certified Manufacturers!  Good luck on buying your baby products! Take advantage of this great website and have that reassurance that the products you buy are of high quality and safe for your baby!

I participated in a campaign on behalf of Influence Central for the Juvenile Products Manufacturers Association. I received a promotional item as a thank you for participating.”
