My New Smartphone – $19 – $29 a Month

September 17, 2013 by The Things I Love Most

First off I want to let you know I am not being paid for this post!  I am posting it on my own free will becuase I am so stinking excited to finally have a smart phone and not have to pay tons of money.

We have been with Sprint forever and have been paying for lame phones with unlimited texting and 1000 mins.  Nothing exciting.  We were paying $117 a month for mine and my husbands phone and an extra phone for our house which was $10 a month.  I hated paying that bill every month.  We both kind of wanted smartphones, but didn’t really care because we didn’t want to pay any more than we were already paying.  We finally got out of contract this last month and started looking around!!

I hate contracts and have been excited to try a company with no contracts.  When I heard about Republic Wireless I was so excited to not only see the NO CONTRACT, but also the awesome price of $19/Month!

So I am sure you are wondering how this works.  I am not a tech person, so here goes my mommy blogger answer.  Republic Wireless uses an Android Smartphone, and has unlimited use of it for data, calls, and text.  Your phone comes with built-in Wi-Fi Hybrid Calling technology that leverages the web whenever Wi-Fi is available, and uses Sprint’s Cellular network when it’s not. (Ok, I got that from the website 🙂

I read a bunch of reviews on the phone, some good, some not good.  The main thing I got out of the reviews is that it isn’t the greatest phone in the world…but it is a great phone.  It works, it makes calls, it seems fast to me!   Here is some stuff about the phone.  I LOVE that is is water resistant, and can take getting beat up!

Motorola DEFY XT

The Motorola DEFY XT, featuring Corning Gorilla Glass, is a next generation smartphone that can take whatever you throw at it. The Defy is dust proof and water resistant. It features a beautiful 3.7″ display, front facing camera, 5.0 MP rear facing camera, and a 1 GHz CPU.

Features

  • Dual-band antennas for roaming on both 1900 and 800 MHz frequencies
  • Water resistant up to 3 feet for 30 minutes
  • Powered by Android 2.3
  • 1GHz Processor
  • 3.7″ FWVGA Touchscreen covered by Corning Gorilla Glass
  • Hybrid Calling Certified
  • Google Play Store
  • 3G, Wi-Fi b/g/n, Bluetooth, GPS

Accessories

  • Charger
  • USB Cable
  • Battery
  • 2GB microSD Card
  • Quick Start Guide

The other thing people complained about what that you have to buy their phone.  I have heard that they have 2 new, even better phones coming out this fall.  There are two options when buying the phone.  You can buy the phone for $79 and have a monthly payment of $29, or you can buy the phone for $200 and can have a monthly payment of $19.  We decided since we didn’t have a lot of extra cash to do the $79 dollars phone, and the plan of $29, just incase we want to get one of their new phone later, which they will let us switch plans then.

Here are a few other great things about Republic Wireless….

  • I am going to save so much money!
  • I am a smartphone lover now!
  • They have refer a friend programs where you get a code and they get Their first month free and you get a month free.
  • I was able to keep my old number
  • I love all these cool apps, like Instagram, Facebook, and games for my kids! And especially reading on LDS.org and listening on the Mormon Channel apps!
  • Also, if you don’t like the phone you have a month to return it for full refund (except for $10 shipping)
  • And you can cancel anytime.

I have also heard that you can get $10 off the Motorola Defy XT from Republic Wireless from now through September 24th!

I am sure you have a ton of questions, so you can go Here to see if they can answer them.  They also have an awesome Facebook page where you can ask questions and someone answers super fast.

Uh oh. Now that you have a smart phone, does this mean you… aren’t smart? 😉

So you’ll have to let us know how the service is after a little while. Great price for cell phone service.

I have had this phone since last December and get excellent coverage and have had very few issues. Most issues I have come across are my lack of smartphone knowledge and usually my 14 yr. old can help me figure it out since she has the same phone.
