This morning I headed over to the outlets in our area to rent a wet suit. This gorgeous tight fitting masterpiece that is supposed to help keep me afloat while I attempt to swim a 1/2 a mile in lake with little fishes that might try to bite my toes. Oh just thinking about it makes me nervous. I am going to attempt to train for my first lake triathlon. I have done 3 pool ones, so I think it is about time. I’ll let you know if I drown or not tonight. Anyway, that’s all beside the point and totally random.
After that we headed over to some stores to look for an outfit for my new nephew. First stop was Children’s Place. I love this store for all it’s great deals. I don’t think I have bought anything in there for over $6. I hate spending to much on kids clothes. But lately, for some reason I have been so tempted to buy the new stuff {I haven’t given into the temptation though}. You know the clothes hanging up really nice on the wall all put together in clusters of cute things that go together!! Last week I was in Crazy 8 and I wanted to buy everything in the front of the store and nothing on the clearance racks. I feel the same way about clothes for myself also. I walked into Down East today and wanted new clothes for myself, but only the cute ones hanging up and not just the top, but the top, skirt and shoes and necklace to go with it!! I feel like Madame Blueberry {for those that are Veggie Tales fans} walking around the store and thinking I need it all and wishing I could buy everything. I don’t know why I feel like that but I do sometimes and it makes me so mad. I know that stuff just really isn’t important, but I want it!! {I hope I am not the only one that feels this way!?!}
Today while I was longing to get my daughter this cute outfit in Children’s Place, I remembered a quote I had heard from Women’s Conference. The speaker was talking about saving money when buying clothes. She said “we as parents are responsible for clothing our children not decorating them”. When I heard it I loved it! It is very good advice, but it is hard to live by. The speaker was talking about how she buys her kids nice clothes at good prices, but that if her kids want extras or something that isn’t on sale they have to buy it themselves. I had to walk away from the cute outfit that I really wanted for my daughter that would have totalled $25 for a shirt and $19 for the leggings {not pictured} Totaling with tax over $50 bucks for 2 items. {I can’t imagine spending that much} I know if I check back it will probably be 1/2 price in a month and maybe even 1/2 that the next month! I just need to remember to be patient!
I am a big time fan of off season shopping. I have a bin in my garage that I store clothes in for the next season. Yesterday I was nervous I would have to spend a lot on new school/fall clothes for my kids, but then I went and found the bin and realized that I had a lot of stuff. I only get stuff for this bin if it is under $5 and I know they need it. Then when that season comes around I don’t have to spend full price on anything except shoes. I find the best deals in February/March at Old Navy’s clearance sale. Everything is between 97 cents and $5. I always leave there with a lot of stuff for under $50 bucks!! You can also find a lot of great deals online at all the stores I have mentioned. Just go to their site and click on clearance, and most likely you will find the outfit that you saw a couple months ago at an outrageous price for at least half off!! Good luck school clothes shopping. I hope you find some good deals. If you do, let me know where!!
