I don’t feel like I have very greedy kids. They make some money during the year from our family business and they buy some stuff that they want, but when it comes to Christmas sometimes I can’t keep up with all the things they spout off that they would LOVE for Christmas. They know they won’t get all of it, but I swear their lists get longer every day. I’m sure your kids are the same way! I love to get them gifts, but with children’s Christmas lists growing longer, this sweet story Sam’s Christmas Wish is a wonderful reminder of the importance of giving good gifts, and the fun of giving those gifts in secret.
One of our favorite things to do is our 25 Days of Christmas Service with our kids. It changes their hearts and helps them see the true meaning of giving, loving and serving others! We have been on the other end a few times in our marriage when others have served us, and we have felt SO grateful even though we would have never asked for it!
This touching tale shows how an anonymous gift not only changed the heart of one man, but touched the lives of many others. Sam’s Christmas Wish is a story of love, service, and sacrifice that will inspire each of us to ask, “What gift will I give in secret this Christmas?”
The story is about a man named Sam Edwards who right before Christmas has lost his job. Not wanting charity from others he falls asleep in his living room—with his shotgun across his lap just to make sure no one attempts to visit him—he wakes up to find his front porch laden with Christmas goodies. When he tries to figure out who it was he sees that the freshly fallen snow reveals no footprints.
Years later when his wife is passed and he is old and sick he wishes to find a way he can bless a life the way someone did theirs that Christmas long ago. On Christmas Eve, when he sees his neighbor’s house on fire, he hopes that he can be the means for another anonymous miracle.
Sam’s Christmas Wish is a story that shows the reality of true giving, the joy of service, and the miracle of love. It is filled with touching reminders as well as excellent art work displaying the beauty and emotion of Christmas.
