You guys! It is so hot where I live right now. I know there are other places but it’s been over a hundred degrees every day, but I actually like it. I love the summer here in Southern Utah for the most part, but there are days where the heat just sucks everything out of me. Today I am going to talk to you about tips to staying hydrated! Last week I talked about how we can keep our kids healthy this summer. It’s super important to keep everyone healthy. And hydration is huge in regards to keeping ourselves healthy not just during the summer but all year round.
A few summers ago my son was hospitalized because of dehydration. We were actually not here in southern Utah and the weather wasn’t very hot and he had been drinking water but I guess he hadn’t been drinking enough. He I’ve been playing with cousins outside for a little while, we had a family dinner and he drink water, but I guess his body just hadn’t had enough. I know sometimes we as parents think our kids are getting enough water but we need to be an example and make sure that we are getting enough water and getting our children to drink enough water also.
I haven’t always been the best water drinker. In fact my husband drinks so much water and is always telling me I need more water. He works outside all day and I’m in the house most of the time. Where we used to live I didn’t like the taste of our water, which affected the amount of water that I drink. So on that note I will move on to my first tip of how to stay hydrated!
Staying Hydrated During the Summer Months
1- Find Water That You Like – Whether it’s bottled water, filtered water, cold, warm! What ever it is, drink it! If you don’t like plain water, infuse it with fruit! I love adding lemon to mine!
2- Drink A Big Glass of Water in the Morning – The first thing I do now after I get out of bed is go straight to my water bottle and drink it before I eat anything. It helps me not over eat at breakfast and starts my day off hydrated!
3- Drink Water out of a Water Bottle – I have a water bottle that I have deemed my own in my household. If anybody touches it they are in big trouble :)! It has the amount of ounces on the side of the bottle, and I fill it up at least 4 times a day. When it’s gone I know that I need to fill it up again and I like to leave it in the fridge because I like cold water. I’m not going to get into the studies on drinking cold or lukewarm or warm water. I like mine cold and if I’m going to stay hydrated that is the way I am going to do it.
4- Drink a lot of Water – Drink whatever temperature water you like to drink, but make sure you are drinking a lot of it. I have heard a lot of research suggest that you drink at least half your weight in water. If you exercise a lot you will probably need to drink more.
5- When Working Out Find a Sports Drink Along With Water- When you work out water is great, but if you are working out hard and sweating it important to have a fluid with electroltes and vitamins for super hydration. I have tried a lot of sports drinks that say they’re healthy but when I look at the ingredients they are not, they are filled with sodium. I’ve tried flavored waters, or carbonated waters and I think they are disgusting. The only other drink I like besides just drinking water is BODYARMOR. It actually tastes good!. ( Okay I like some sodas, but we’re not talking about drinking soda we’re talking about staying hydrated, and nobody should stay hydrated by drinking half their body weight in soda??)
Last year I blogged about the new BODYARMOR sports drink. This year I am excited to talk to you about the all new BODYARMOR LYTE. It is a naturally flavored, naturally sweetened, low calorie sports drink that has electrolytes, coconut water, and vitamins for super hydration. It is low in sodium and high in potassium. It has only 20 calories per serving body armor water is premium water designed for athletes. I can’t drink half my weight in body armor light every day, and you shouldn’t, but I for sure can drink one a day especially after my morning workout. The body armor light only contains 20 calories per serving and it is a great drink. I actually really like the taste of it. And I know you will too. It comes in two flavors!
You can check out their website HERE as to where they sell BOYDARMOR drinks! Where I live in southern Utah you can find them at every Maverik, Smith’s, Target, and Harmon’s. The drink is also fine for kids to drink. It’s packed with great stuff. My husband and I went out hiking with the kids last week and they each carry their own water bottle and we went on a 4 mile hike and that’s all they drank was their BODYARMOR drink and it was just enough for them to stay hydrated! I can not tell you enough about how important it is to stay hydrated and make sure your kids are doing the same! You can follow these simple tips for your kids also. Get them their own bottles, have them drink a cup of water before breakfast, and try out BODYARMOR!
