Yup, I’m here to share with you another good book that I read this week! It was a very fast, and “delicious” read! My friend always says she likes to sit on the couch and cozy up in a blanket and read “delicious” books! I like that word to describe a really good book, and this book, The Second Season by Heather Chapman was one of them. It’s probably better for me anyway to cozy up on a couch and read a delicious book then it is to eat a delicious treat! So this week I did that’s what I did in my evenings after dinner when the kids went to bed, and it was wonderful
About the book:
Caroline is not looking forward to this year’s Season in London. Her mother already has schemes for her marriage prospects—and none of them include love, it seems. But when a dashing young duke begins to pursue her, Caroline has second thoughts. Caught between ambition and desire, Caroline may gamble her heart away without even realizing it.
My Review: This story was a sweet story about true love, honesty and being true to yourself. I liked Chapman’s writing style and how she did flash backs to things that happened in the past. It actually goes back in time about every 8 or so chapters and has a little flashback to when Caroline’s parents were courting, and the reason behind their marriage. Then it tells the story of their family 25 years later with 3 grown daughters and a teenage son. Their daughters are in the second season in London and while Lucy is excited, Caroline would rather stay home in the country. I loved all the wonderful characters in this story and her description of each from Caroline, the strong willed, to Lucy the sweet, to their brother John who just might be a trouble maker. I even liked her description of the creepy Charles Jasper who is desperate for a wife, and tries to force Lucy to marry him. I loved Thomas from the beginning and tried to like Lord Searly, but never could even though he does try! The story ended just how I wanted it to with Caroline and Lucy both finding love. Spoiler Alert: I think if I were living back then I would be more like Caroline and not marry for a certain station, but marry for love. The end of the book made it seem like there could be more stories written about this family, so I hope I hope that there is a second book that goes into more detail about what happens to their brother John and how Caroline and the man she marries work together! I would recommend this book The Second Season to anyone. It is a very clean romance. My daughter actually read it also and really liked it!
