Out Math Curriculum

May 12, 2010 by The Things I Love Most

math
I am all for making learning fun. I was raised doing Saxon Math and it was very mundane and I felt like I had lots of worksheets to get done! Most math is like that, but a couple of years ago my family found this great Math Curriculum that is so much better especially for younger kids. It is called Right Start Mathematics. I started it last year with my daughter and am now using it a little bit for my 4 year old. It is a great program that is very hands on and makes understanding numbers really easy and understandable! It is a little different because you use an Abacus {Yup one of those counters that the Chinese invented} but it makes understanding numbers so much easier for kids! It tells you as a teacher exactly what to say and do in each lesson. It is very easy to understand and do with your child. I bought it though the company, but you can find it cheaper through Here.
The other nice thing about this math is you buy the book and manipulatives and then copy the worksheets out of them. There are not a ton of worksheets because it is more hands on math. So you buy the set and don’t EVER have to buy it again for the next child!!!
Cowboy loves to sit and listen and play with the manipulatives while I do math with his sister. He is even starting to understand stuff he doesn’t even need to know yet!!

This sounds like a really cool program. I might have to ask you about it again when the boy gets older 🙂
