“I participated in an Ambassador Activation on behalf of Influence Central for the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk. I received a promotional item to thank me for my participation.” Please note this is a sponsored post. My opinions are my own and were not effected in any way.
CANCER…..I hate it. Growing up my first experience of hearing about cancer was that it left my grandma a widow at the age of 40 with 7 kids between the ages of 2-16. I heard amazing stories about my grandpa, but because of cancer I wound’t ever get to have a grandpa around to watch me grow up. Grandpas are the best, and I never got to meet mine. My grandma is one of my best friends and she misses that man every single day. Cancer is heartbreaking. When I was in high school I found out that my 11 year old cousin (almost like a little sister) was diagnosed with cancer. I was so scared! Graetfully she is still with us. Thanks to research and modern medicine, but there still isn’t a cure for all cancers.
I have participated in a few walks, or races for cancer, so this year I have decided to participate in the The Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk. The Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk presented by Hyundai has raised more than $100 million to support Dana-Farber Cancer Institute’s lifesaving mission to conquer all forms of cancer in children and adults.
We all have some connection to cancer. Whether we’ve fought the fight, or know someone who has, cancer is a presence and something that requires extensive treatment, research and support. Some of the easiest ways to help in the fight against cancer are by fundraising for causes and participating in events such as the Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk, which supports Dana-Farber Cancer Institute. You all should join me and lace up and take steps toward a cancer-free world by participating in the 2015 Boston Marathon Jimmy Fund Walk!
There are a few options for joining the race. As awesome as it would be I can’t go to Boston do to this walk, so I am going to participate as a virtual walker. As a virtual walker you don’t have to walk, it’s more about the fundraising. I plan on doing both. So Walk or not, the way you help out is by fundraising. It is easier than you think and there are so many tools available and rewards for reaching certain fundraising milestones. If you live near Boston and want to join the race, head over HERE to register and use coupon code BLOG to get $5 off your registration!
The Boston Marathon® Jimmy Fund Walk – Walking for Cause
The walk is on on Sept. 27 and you can choose from these four routes…. (All routes finish at the Copley Square finish area in Boston where walkers will enjoy live music and food)
- Hopkinton 26.2-mile
- Wellesley 13.1-mile
- Boston College 5-mile
- Dana-Farber 3-mile
If you cannot make it to Boston, you can still participate! Look here for more information on participating as a Virtual Walker. If you register as a virtual walker there is no registration fee! The fundraising is vital and goes to such an important mission.
I’m excited to take on the challenge as a virtual walker. Registering as a Jimmy Fund Walk Virtual Walker is a great way to stay involved in the event, even if you can’t be there on walk day. Walk on your own or just focus on fundraising as a Virtual Walker. VIRTUAL WALKERS ARE
- Fundraisers who cannot walk in this year’s event
- Encouraged to raise as much money as they can but do not have a fundraising minimum
- Sent an official 2015 Walk T-shirt and medal if they raise at least $300 (or $100 for those 12 years old or younger on Walk day) by October 31, 2015. Raise at least $300 (or $100 for those 12 years old or younger on Walk day) by August 14, 2015 to receive your T-shirt and medal by mail before Walk day!
Here’s a little video about the walk!
Wish me luck in this challenge. I have a goal to walk all 26.2 miles and fundraise $300+ dollars! If you want to help me make my goal you can donate HERE!

Wow! What a great cause. And I love that we can participate as a virtual walker, more events should do that!

You’re right. We’re all affected by cancer in some way. Because of it, I and my children never met my husband’s mother. This sounds like a great cause, and I’ve never heard of being a virtual walker. That’s really cool!
