I’m really excited to tell you about this book, How 4 Feet of Plywood Saved the Grand Canyon, by Jerry Barrowman. I’ve mentioned before that I’m trying to trade off between fiction and non fiction in my reading this year and I just finished a really good fiction book and then was asked to review this book. Perfect timing. When I saw the title I will say I was a bit nervous about reading a whole book about how 4 Feet of Plywood Saved the Grand Canyon, but then I realized it was a book of different little known inspiring true stories form American History, I was vas very interested.
How 4 Feet of Plywood Saved the Grand Canyon Review
I am all about learning history through inspiring stories. The interesting thing about this book is that all these stories I hadn’t heard before, but they all have a huge impact on America. My favorite stories was about the Halifax Explosion, where two boats in the Halifax Harbor that crashed caused so much devastation, but also brought together America with the Canadians. I also really enjoyed learning more about the Yellowstone Supervolcano, and the story behind Abraham Lincoln before he became president and how the Rock Island Railroad Bridge Disaster helped him make decision to run for president! This book is a quick read. You could read about one event in about 10-20 minutes. My older two kids can’t wait to read it now that I am done with it. This book would be perfect for Father’s Day or birthday gift or just a nice gift to someone in your life you know loves history!
