Free 4th of July Printable of the Pledge of Allegiance

June 30, 2014 by The Things I Love Most

I love the 4th of July!  I love everything about it.  I love Red, White and Blue, fireworks, kids faces at a parade, all the fun that we have as we celebrate our country!  My little town does a great job at celebrating.  They start the day of with a race, pancake breakfast, water games at the park with the fire station, and in the evening dinner, dancing, and fireworks!  It’s great fun!

If you know me, you know my family and I love the flag and all it stands for.  We repeat The Pledge of Allegiance every morning during the school year and learn lots of patriotic songs. We own our own little flag business displaying the flag for the people in our community for 11 holidays during the year.  We have also taught our children the Pledge starting at age two!  I think it is so important to know and understand the meaning of the words.  I am amazed at how many people don’t know the words.

This last month I was up at girls camp with my amazing young women’s group and we were doing the flag ceremony.  When it came time for the pledge, when we got to the phrase “indivisible, with liberty and justice for all” the girls started laughing at me.  I look at them and I said, “Did you just say Individual”  They laughed and said, “Yes” what did you say?  They thought I said the word “individual” wrong by saying “indivisible”. Like I made up the word.  Ha!  I told them I was totally right in how I said it and that I would prove it.  We asked some other girls when we got back to camp and they all said that it was “individual”.  I honestly couldn’t believe it.  I told them that it wouldn’t even make since.  Finally I found a leader and we asked her and then two more and they all said “indivisible”! Of course I was right!  I don’t think the pledge is repeated very much anymore, and it makes me sad.  I heard a story once where the college royalty was asked to sing the national anthem at a basketball game and the girl didn’t even know half the words.  It was totally embarrassing for her and for everyone watching.  How sad is that! So let’s teach our kids these important words and songs.  They our part of our countries heritage and it would be so sad if one day they were never said, which I hope it never gets to that point.

Here is a free little printable that I am going to put out every July with my holiday decor (which is very little)!
