Follow Me to Zion

November 15, 2013 by The Things I Love Most

Have you seen this book! It is not only full of beautiful pictures, but full of amazing stories.  It is a compilation of stories from the Willie Handcart Pioneers.
I was so excited to see this picture in the book.  This is a relative of mine named Rhoda Rebecca Oakey.  My wonderful grandma is an Oakey and there was a whole 10 pages written about Thomas and Ann Collette Oakey….my great great great (maybe one more great) grandparents.  I read it with my children on Sunday and was in awe of the things that their family went through.  Rhoda was 10 and was the last member to die right before they reached the valley.  She loved to “sing for the weary travelers after a long day with her sweet soprano voice” (must be where my sweet grandma got her voice).
This book is full of touching stories about the families that were in the handcart company.  The struggles, trials, and amazing miracles that they went through.  We are going to read a couple of stories  a month.  It was fun to just read to the kids while they colored or played with Lego’s.

The pages are beautifully done with lots of wonderful pictures depicting the stories.

Here is a little product description…

Follow Me to Zion recounts 20 compelling stories of members of the Willie handcart company and their rescuers. Dozens of full-color images by artist Julie Rogers enrich this keepsake volume, which pays tribute to the men, women, and children who have become enduring witnesses of the power of faith and sacrifice.
This book also contains the most comprehensive, up-to-date listing of members of the Willie handcart company.

You can buy this book Here from Deseret Book.

I received this book free of charge for Deseret Book.  All opinions are 100% mine.

Thank you for the book link. We were able to visit where the Martin and Willie Handcart companies were before being rescued. The spirit was so strong when visiting the actually areas. it is all so amazing how much faith they had.
    Blessings!
