Some people like to invest their money in nice clothes, a closet full of shoes or home decor, but Legos have been the best investment we have ever made! It is the one thing that when I am at my wits end with my boys {and even my daughter} I can say “Go play with your Legos” and they will, and I can enjoy an hour of peace! They absolutely LOVE Legos! They pull their big bag out and their Lego table and go to town! To be honest I haven’t even spent that much on them. They have a few fun sets from Christmas and Birthdays and a bigger set we got them with a Lego table for Christmas and that has truly been the best toy we have ever bought. Not just for my boys but for my daughter also!
I am actually really picky about the toys I buy my kids. I hate buying lame things that I know will break or won’t be played with. You know those Dollar store toys or stuff they bought at a garage sale in the ten cent bin. Yes we do have some of that stuff, but I like to weed through it and get rid of some of it every year. As far as toys I will never get rid of even when all my kids are gone, on the top of that list are Legos! I love my kids to have an active imagination and to have fun creating, making up stories, and pretending. My kids love to do that with Legos. They create buildings, cities, houses, people, animals, and more. And then after all the building is done they play.
So there you have it. Invest in Legos for your kids….they will play for hours.
Here are some reasons I love having legos for teaching my kids, and a few I found on pinterest that I can’t wait to try!
1-Teaching Math – there is seriously so much you can do with Legos and math. Teaching balance, greater than or less than, counting, sorting, all sorts of things!
2- Learning the alphabet- (my son made the whole alphabet one day and it took him a good 3 hours!)
3-Teaching colors & patterns
4- Teaching creativity – have a contest seeing who can make the most creative thing. {I never win}
5- Creating Marble Mazes
6- Creating buildings, temples and castles
7- Using Legos when playing with play dough. (make letters, numbers and shapes)
8- Learning to read or put sounds together by putting words or letters on each Lego and having your child put them together!
9- Playing Lego Games- we are a big love of games to teach rule following, math skills and taking turns. These Lego games do not disappoint.
10- Lastly, Decorating with Legos. This doesn’t have a ton to do with learning, but I have seen some really cool decorations made with legos, like clocks, picture frames and lamps. My kids would love it if their room looked like this…

We just introduced my boys to Legos this year and now my daughter loves them too. All she asked from the Easter Bunny was Lego Friends (the girl version). They love the Lego website too.
